Olivia’s Questions, Our Responses
1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Bianca: Unfortunately, I check my phone. I wish I could break this habit!! Since that isn’t really a cool answer, I’ll go with making a green smoothie or having some green tea :)
Sara: Pee. That’s not a cool answer either, is it? It’s fine. I also check my phone and I usually look like this.
2. What would be your ultimate breakfast?
B: Breakfast burritos rule my life. My ultimate burrito would include: seasoned tofu, avocado, salsa, black beans, spinach, and hot sauce. Side of poco-loco hash from Crazy Burger, please! [Crazy Burger is my favorite restaurant of all time, btw! Check out the poco loco hash and you will be drooling.]
S: Breakfast is my least favorite meal to make at home, but my favorite to eat out. When I’m home, it’s oatmeal with dried cranberries, almonds and maple syrup. When I’m out, egg sandwiches for life. (Not vegan, but I’m transitioning through Vegan
Before 6 forallmealsbutone. More on that later, or you can check out my bio for a few more details.)
3. Do you have any nicknames?
B: Most of my friends and family call me B. Joe has recently started calling me “Re-run” because I watch Office re-runs every night while I cook. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t the highlight of my day.
S: Not really, but lots of people call me by my first and last name with no pause: Saraday.
4. Which season is your favorite and why?
B: FALL FALL FALL FALL FALL FDHSDJKHSDK. It is the PERFECT time of year. The weather is crisp, but still comfortable enough to go without a jacket. Scarves, colors, fingerless mittens, pumpkin everything, the Walking Dead, apple cider, haunted hayrides, Halloween, boots, crunchy leaves, foliage, cozy mornings, fuzzy socks, flannel pajama bottoms, flannel sheets, fall fashion… should I keep going?
S: FALL, obviously. I hate the heat, I hate humidity, I hate sunburn and sweating and everything else that comes along with hot weather. The second the temperature drops below 65 I am outside jumping around like a crazy person. It’s such a beautiful season, but it’s so fleeting. I try to take advantage of it.
5. If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you take?
B: Oh dear… this is so tough. Can I bring a person? I’d bring Joe to keep me laughing, a hefty notebook, and a pen. At least I could write!
S: A pillow, for a comfortable night’s sleep. My iPad (and a solar charger), loaded with funny shows and movies to keep myself from going crazy. And lip balm. Seriously. Who can live without lip balm?
6. What is your favorite thing about yourself?
B: Hmm… another tough, but good one! I would say my “old soul” mentality. I was never interested in drugs, alcohol, or partying. I have always been the girl who would rather hang out at home, low-key and relaxing. I’d much rather spend Friday night with my family than anyone else [besides Sara, of course… who is basically family].
S: This is tough! We’re so quick to compliment others but have such a hard time talking about ourselves. I think I’m a really rational person. I’m dramatic and over the top sometimes, but when it all comes down to it, I make practical decisions and I’m able to look at situations with an analytical eye. And I’ve always liked that about myself! Must be the Virgo in me.
7. Tell me your last dream?
B: My dreams are crazy, especially since I am watching Walking Dead reruns before the season 5 premiere in October. Sooo many zombie dreams! Sara’s Walking Dead dreams are way creepier than mine, though. Go ahead Sara, tell them! But okay… in one of the better ones, Daryl Dixon was my boyfriend. I woke up [sadly] and told Joe all about it… thankfully he just laughs it off. He’s good like that!! :)
S: I usually have the most boring dreams. Some people dream about flying or doing things they can’t do in real life. Mine are basically just me repeating things I’ve done while awake. Once I had a dream about shampooing my carpet, for example. What. But my worst Walking Dead dream involved Lori gutting live cows out in this huge field. CREEPY, I know. Sorry I told you.
8. What is your favorite childhood food memory?
B: My brother will laugh when he sees this. I watched Beauty and the Beast a million times as a child (who didn’t?) and during the song Be Our Guest, there is a dancing cupcake. That cupcake looked SO FREAKING GOOD. It had pink frosting with a cherry on top, and it would dance menacingly in front of my young eyes. I ALWAYS wanted that damn cupcake. Flash forward to 2013, and I went to Be Our Guest restaurant in Disney World. Do you know what they had? YEP, YOU GUESSED IT. Best cupcake I’ve ever eaten… it was worth the 20-year wait.
S: I have this one memory that was always pretty vague in my mind until I recently confirmed the details with my mother. A few background details first: my parents’ house used to have a central vacuum system, where the vacuum is built into the house and you just need to hook a hose up to a hole in the wall and vacuum away. (Weird, right? These used to be a big thing.)
Anyway, I hate bananas. I can smell them from a mile away. Bianca used to eat bananas when we worked together and I would freak because I could smell it. So, to the story: when I was about four, my mom gave me a banana. At this point, I had already started hating them. So I took my banana and I walked back the hallway in my parents’ house. I opened the little cover to the central vacuum outlet, and shoved that banana in there. It clogged the system and I remember my dad in there trying to dig it out with no luck. They never used the central vacuum again. Whatever, that’s what my mom gets for giving me bananas when I HATE them.
And yes, that’s my favorite food memory because it proves how much I hate bananas and how crafty I thought I was as a child. I tried to vacuum mine away and broke a multi-thousand dollar system.
9. What is your favorite food now?
B: Vegan burritos or any kind of cake, really. I could live off both!
S: Pizza. No question. I’ve been on the hunt for the best in Pittsburgh since I moved here and I recently discovered Proper Brick Oven & Tap Room. I almost cried when it was over. And then I texted everyone I knew and told them how amazing this pizza is, and I talked about it nonstop for at least a week. Brb, making plans for this weekend.
10. Do you have a favorite mantra?
B: “Be kind.” – I think this is important for everyone to remember!
S: I’ve never really thought about this, but I find myself saying and thinking, “It’ll be fine,” many times throughout the day. Because you know what? It will! If it’s not fine (whatever ‘it’ may be), you find a way to fix it and move on with your life.
