Antioxidant Smoothie Bowl

Superfood Smoothie Bowl Recipe

By now, I am sure you know that I am a preacher of eating your antioxidants. This antioxidant smoothie bowl is packed with flavor, texture, and of course… antioxidant-rich ingredients <3.

I’m sure you can see the itty bitty dark chocolate chips from the picture above. Nope, your vision does not deceive you. There is dark chocolate in this breakfast bowl. While you can’t go and stuff your face with chocolate and consider it healthy, you CAN enjoy dark chocolate in moderation. The key term here is DARK. Not that milky or white crap. Dark chocolate contains flavanols, which are a main type of flavonoid found in cocoa. According to Cleveland Clinic: “In addition to having antioxidant qualities, research shows that flavanols have other potential influences on vascular health, such as lowering blood pressure, improving blood flow to the brain and heart, and making blood platelets less sticky and able to clot.”

How do you like that for a bit of education this morning? Conclusion: This bowl is a dream.

The Recipe

In a blender:

  • 1/2 avocado
  • Handful of frozen strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries
  • 1/2 – 1 cup non-dairy milk (I used almond)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

If your smoothie is too thick, simply add more non-diary milk. I prefer mine to be a little on the “soupy” side.

Pour into your favorite bowl. I sat there for 5 minutes, staring into my Fiestaware cabinet and trying to pick the perfect color. I landed on lemongrass… and I think I made the right decision. Gorgeous color combo!

The best part has arrived: Dress up your bowl!

The options are endless, really. This is what I chose for an extra antioxidant-boost:

  • Goji berries
  • Chia seeds
  • Dried coconut chips (from Trader Joe’s)
  • Sliced almonds, crushed up
  • Dark chocolate mini morsels by Enjoy Life

That’s it, folks! Such a simple breakfast looks so extravagant, colorful, and bold. Get those spoons ready :)

What do you like to dress up your smoothie bowl with? Would love to hear your ideas! xx Bianca
