What I’m Loving Wednesday

There is lots and lots to love in October! In case you weren’t aware, October is my favorite month. Everything about it is perfect; the colors, the food, the crisp air, the smells, the fashion. It’s all so inspiring. Go ahead and toss me in that pile of chicks who love nothing more than a pumpkin spiced latte, or pumpkin-spiced everything. I’m not ashamed! Aside from the month, here are a few other things that I am currently loving.

#1: The Walking Dead, Season 5

Yup, Sara had the SAME love last month! My best friends have returned, and wow. I honestly don’t know where to begin on this first episode. You’ll just have to watch it for yourself. I’ll just let the top gifs do all the talking. [WARNING: YOU WILL CRY.]

My two favorite characters of all time. Carol took it to a whole new level of badassery, and this reunion is literally everything. If I can’t have Daryl Dixon, only Carol can. Maybe Sara. But, seriously… #TeamCaryl

#2: Coraline

“Be wise. Be brave. Be tricky.” I have been meaning to read Coraline, because I am so in love with the movie. AND it is especially perfect for the spooky month ahead! It is creepy, dark, whimsical, creative, and oh so weird… the perfect combination.  I highly suggest it if you are a fan of all those things. Also, we should be friends if you are. ;)

#3: Mugs

Seriously… I just love mugs. Each year, I go to Christmas Tree Shops and buy a ton for cheapie cheap. This year I bought this one, super cute owl & gigantic tea mugs [don’t mind Minnie giving the stink eye lols], and the one above. I also have all my Fiestaware mugs, of course. Anyways, if you are ever thinking about buying me a gift, you can’t go wrong with a cute mug. THE MORE MUGS THE MERRIER.

#4: Tina of Bob’s Burgers

tinaJust look at the gif and know that you want to be best friends with Tina Belcher. This butt-obsessed babe has witty comebacks, hilarious one-liners, and a feminist voice for the books (i.e.: I am a smart, strong, sensual woman). And those nervous moans and groans? I can’t help but laugh out loud every. damn. time. Uhhhhh.

Tina Belcher, you are my soul sista.

#5: Andrew McMahon in the Wildnerness

Uh, have you listened yet? My gosh! Here he comes again, with another A++ album. Andrew McMahon is seriously talented, and his music never disappoints. I’ve been following him from his Something Corporate days… into Jack’s Mannequin… into self titled… and now into the wilderness. The album is mellow, and it is perfect cruising down the highway music. Currently digging the following tracks: All Our Lives & Driving Through a Dream <3

  1. Walking Dead. Seems a slightly odd choice as a favorite for a Vegan, no? Compassion, non-violence, and the most gore filled, violent TV show ever made…

    • Hi Matt – It may not be for everyone, but this is a fictional television series (and definitely not the most violent ever made). Violence aside, the writing is phenomenal, as well as the character development. Aside from being vegan, my first love is writing, and I have respect for the story.

As both Sara and I have mentioned on this site before, we choose to live kind (and being vegan is quite a step in the right direction) but we are not perfect. And that’s okay! We’re happy with the positive impact we are having on our wonderful planet. If that is okay with you, we’re so glad to have you follow along! If you are offended by our choices and lifestyle, we’re very sorry to hear that.

  2. No offense. Just struck me as odd. It has the feeling of being a bit inconsistent, but I get it. Fiction vs real life and all that…

An aside, I cannot think of a single TV Show that I would argue is more violent that The Walking Dead. A child was “put down” and heads are routinely cleaved in two. I have no memory of a TV show ever being that violent. I am excluding things on Pay Channels like HBO and Showtime. I think they are a different category and operate on a different standard than plain old readily available Cable TV stations.

I do like your blog and your recipes are great.

    • Ah, okay. I was thinking Dexter, but that would be Showtime. I see what you are saying, and I understand some people may feel that way, but I just wanted to make sure that I spoke up. Sometimes the “vegan criticism” irks me, because I believe that we are all doing such a great thing and it should be celebrated, versus argued/critiqued. I draw the line when it is fiction vs. reality, because of course, I am not living out what I see on TV! lol

I certainly cry my eyes out during the brutal/grotesque scenes (like the children, as you mentioned), but the story and characters have captivated me. Human instinct/survival is an interesting concept to watch unravel.

Glad that you enjoy the recipes, though. Thanks!

  3. Love this! I’m loving the new season of The Mindy Project. And also: knitting, particularly cowls (organic cotton yarn, of course!). I just finished one cowl. Perhaps fingerless gloves are next?
