10 Happiness Tips

I’m feeling pretty wonderful and content today. Life is such a beautiful thing! Whether you are on the move today or curled up on the couch with a cup of tea, make sure you take a moment to be grateful. Take a good look at your life, and smile!

It is so important to remember that you are 100% in charge of your own happiness. You choose how you spend your time. You choose who you keep close. You choose your mood. Don’t ever think for one second that someone else is in charge of any of that! So really, whether you have been under the weather, or simply need a burst of happiness on this wonderful Sunday, take a look at these tips. There are always ways to improve yourself, and of course, live a happier, healthier life!

#1: Eat good food. Vegan or not, you are what you eat. Make an effort to eliminate processed food. Get rid of that shit! All the processed junk may not only take a toll on your health, but your overall happiness. Before I went vegan, I could put away a a half dozen donuts. You bet your ass I licked every last finger, but did it feel good? Tasted great, felt like shit. If you put good food in, you will feel good about yourself. I found this out very quickly when I became a vegan.

#2: Create new vibes. Sometimes, all it takes is a change of scenery. Find what inspires you. Choose colors that make you happy, and pieces that make you smile. I love nothing more than retreating to the couch in our small but cozy living room! And you bet your ass that is Walking Dead reruns playing on TV.

#3: Learn something new. Whether you want to learn a new language or take a cooking class, go for it! Learning is evolving, and it can give you a whole new sense of purpose and accomplishment.

#4: Sit outside. Listen to the noise around you. Take it ALL in! Sounds of nature are peaceful and can put you in a tranquil state of mind. Simply sit, breathe, and enjoy the simplicity of it.

#5: Wake up and tell yourself out loud to “be happy.” This may sound silly, but it can help! If you tell yourself “today is going to be a good day,” chances are, it will be! I actually do this on some days when I wake up under the weather. I tell myself it will be a good day, blast some girl-power jams, and hit the road.

#6: Create something. A painting, scrapbook, even a home-cooked meal. Creativity allows you to express yourself in a whole new way.

#7: Let go of things you cannot control. Easier said than done, but hear me out. Holding onto negative aspects in life will not accomplish anything. If you cannot control it, forget about it! Don’t allow negative energy to bring down your mood.

#8: Be a kid again. I mean, look at the smile on my face. Sometimes, it is fun to forget about the adult world and enjoy the simple pleasures that you did when you were 5! You want to jump in a puddle? Do it. Want to eat dirt? Chow down on some fucking dirt. Find a local park and hit the swings. Play your favorite board game. Build a freaking fort, for god-sakes!

#9: Practice random acts of kindness. Whether you buy a stranger their morning coffee or call an old friend to talk, these small things can add up and make you feel wonderful! If I found out that someone bought me coffee, I would probably cry.

#10: Snuggle with a furry friend. For me, this is my pretty kitty – Minnie Min! Nothing feels better than cuddling up and relaxing with the ones you love – furbabies included!

  1. Great post, thanks for sharing :) my favorite ones are 2, 6, 9 and 10, but I think I try to include all of them in my life. And now, when it’s getting colder, there’s nothing better than a cup of hot tea or cocoa and a chat with family or friends :)

  2. This is a wonderful article! So many great points – tell yourself you can and will be happy, give yourself the tools and permission to do so, and then get out and make it happen! Also, Minnie Min is very cute.
