Homemade Hummus

Homemade Vegan Hummus Recipe

goood morning!

Life has been crazy lately – between wedding planning (SO SOON) and work, I’ve been mentally exhausted. As a result, I haven’t been making crazy recipes or anything. To be honest, I haven’t cooked all that much. I usually don’t cook at all in the summer – we mostly grill veggies and I make a few sides (helloooo sexy bean salad) but it’s mostly picking at fresh ingredients in the fridge. Lots of fruit… easy chickpea salad… lettuce wraps. October is soon though, and that means I’ll be in my favorite mode – soup mode. Soup all day everyday<3

So for now, I have a pretty simple recipe that is in no way my own, really. I just kinda dumped ingredients into my processor based on what hummus is. I’m sure this recipe is everywhere, but you are here… and hey, I’m just sharing what I do in my life ;)

Once you have had homemade hummus, you really can’t even try to go back to the store bought stuff. I used to go crazy for store bought, but now it just tastes fake (or something). But this stuff? This is the stuff dreams are made of.

Sometimes at the work cafe they have homemade hummus and it literally makes my day every. single. time. I’m very impressed with how many vegan options work has for me in the cafe, to be honest! It definitely makes the job that much sweeter. But okay, hummus.

Recipe

Yields: About 1-1 1/2 cups of hummus

You will need:

  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • Juice from 1/2 lemon
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • 1 tbs tahini
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Water, for consistency (optional)

To make:

Add all ingredients into your food processor and blend until smooth (or leave a little chunky, if that is your thing). Add water as necessary. Yep, that’s it. Seal in an air-tight container and keep in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

This spread is awesome as a dip (obviously), sandwich spread, or even salad topper. Plus – there’s that boost of protein that you are always on the lookout for ;)

I imagine that this recipe would be incredible with add-ins like avocado, sundried tomatoes, roasted peppers, roasted garlic, basil, rosemary… mmmm. So many variations! Get creative and see what you can come up with. But now that you have a staple homemade hummus base, well… the world is yours ;)

Okay – I’m off to get ready for the day. Have a beautiful September day, friends! xx b
