Eating Vegan in Disney World 2016

Hi friends!

As promised, I’m here with quite a round-up of all the vegan food I enjoyed in Disney. As always, it was 100% vegan-friendly and I never went hungry. Actually, I definitely ate way more than I should have… but hey, honeymoon!

As long as you let your server/cast member know that you have an allergy/are vegan, they are very accommodating. Almost every time I mentioned it, they would grab the chef to come speak with me about options and review any ingredients/dishes I had questions about. It is very refreshing to see so much care!

I didn’t take photos of all my meals, but most of the awesome/important ones.

FIRST, BLAZE. Blaze Pizza… this was probably my favorite meal. Located in Disney Springs, you literally go in and load up a pizza like you would a sandwich at Subway. For $9.99, you can add as many toppings as you want – including daiya cheese!! In 180-seconds, your pizza is cooked. It was SO DELICIOUS. I am dreaming about it still. Plus, look at all the veggies I got to load on this bad boy – mushrooms, red onions, spinach, zucchini, artichokes, red peppers!

Sunshine Seasons in Epcot has this incredible vegan chik’n korma. This was so rich, warm, and belly-filling – probably the second most amazing thing I ate. I really enjoyed something so familiar to what I would make in my own kitchen!

We indulged a lot at Beaches and Cream because it was located at our hotel – dangerous business! This is vanilla tofutti with bananas and strawberry sauce. Below that, same vanilla tofutti with strawberries and vegan marshmallow sauce. YUM.

Be Our Guest – the incredible replica restaurant for the Beauty and the Beast ballroom. The ambiance is romantic and it’s stunning inside. Every detail is perfect. And even better, they have a vegan entree directly on the menu. Both Joe and I got it! It’s a ratatouille made with quinoa, fresh vegetables, red sauce, and topped with deep-fried basil. Yes, it was as good as it sounds! Plus, they serve vegan rolls and brought over Earth Balance butter. Love that.

We found ourselves snacking on pickles a lot this vaca – they are so crispy and refreshing, and one of the cheaper quick-stop items!

Fresh pineapple spear and pineapple dole whip for us! What’s a Disney World trip without vegan pineapple dole whip?

The Food and Wine Festival was going on while we were there (so cool!) So many amazing dishes from around the world, except not very vegan friendly. They only had one dish for vegans, which I’ll share a little later on below. But for now, this Gardein chik’n burger and fries. I grabbed this in the America section around the world and loaded it with some ketchup and mustard. Joe really wanted to just pick around the world, and I knew I would be way too hungry to just watch him eat. So, this. It was actually very good and filling. Happy they had it – plus, the older man who rang me out was the sweetest! He surprised the crap out of me when he knew everything about veganism. He even started talking to another one of his co-workers about it. Very sweet, super accommodating!

Early morning walk and breakfast on the go – banana, soy milk, and a chocolate-dipped donut from Erin McKenna’s (that they sold at our hotel’s cafe). I’ll talk more about Erin McKenna’s later in this post – but this is definitely the best of all the treats I tried from there. It was pretty heavy, but hey… at least it was tasty!

One of my other favorite meals was at Coral Reef in Epcot. This is a Gardein crabless cake sitting on a bed of couscous and topped with a veggie slaw. Side of roasted potatoes. I ordered it off the allergy menu, and was blown away by how amazing this dish was! I want it now. Couscous is my favorite, and I told Joe this like 100 times after eating this. I was a very happy girl.

Joe’s restaurant of choice was Tokyo Dining, which I was not opposed to because I love Japanese food. The chef here was wonderful (and our servers!) He came out to run through the menu with me, and we landed on steamed brown rice with a crazy veggie stir-fry and a side of spicy edamame. The stir-fry was delicious! It had lotus root in it, which I have never had before but it was quite good. The only downside to this meal was the price – they charged us about $22 for the veggies alone. I thought that was pretty steep, but oh well. A big pile of veggies is exactly what I needed. The cauliflower in it was amazing.

Quick stop for lunch while Joe was again, eating around the world and enjoying the Food and Wine Festival. I grabbed these nachos at the quick service spot in Mexico. Huge serving – very happy Bianca!

A pineapple dole whip float for me. It’s a major treat to have pineapple dole whip on top of pineapple juice… trust me!!

Noshed on popcorn quite a bit at night, especially when watching some of the firework shows. Instead of butter, it is made with a blend of oils. Tastes buttery and delicious, without the dairy!

A veggie pizza from Via Napoli in Italy was pretty good – I topped mine with mushrooms and caramelized onions. While I really enjoyed it, I was way more impressed with Blaze… and it was so much cheaper than this. But still, can’t complain because it was pretty delicious. The sweet onions really made it!

Snacking on a pretzel with some mustard – who doesn’t love a giant pretzel?

Ah, the only vegan meal at the Food and Wine Festival. It was clearly labeled and delicious – Gardein beefless tips on top of white rice and topped with cucumber kimchi. Plus a refreshing slushie. Very flavorful and hit the spot. And I was very glad I could enjoy at least one thing!

Brunch at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom was not as good as their lunch buffet, but still good. I could fill up my plate with a ton!! The chef came out and walked me through the entire buffet line to make sure I knew what I could and couldn’t eat. Judging by my plate… it was pretty much a success. They also served this amazing guava-type fruit juice which was out of this world!

Spice Road Table in Morocco was awesome. We grabbed a pretty light dinner here. The atmosphere is romantic and gorgeous – we sat on the patio right on the water. I ordered the vegetarian platter below – except I had them hold off on the non-vegan hummus fries and add extra globs of regular hummus instead. Glad they let me do that because the hummus was out of this world! There was also pita, stuffed grape leaves, babaganoush, and my favorite… couscous!

Last but not least… Disney-related but not actually in Disney… airport food. Starbucks had this vegan snack and I had to grab and try. They were pretty good! Plus, Naked Juice forever. Even the airport is vegan-friendly!

And you know, aside from all this… I ate lots of bananas, grapes (they sold them by the bag!), and tomatoes. The Olaf strawberry lemonade popsicle is also vegan, which I enjoyed one day. Soy milk was my drink of choice most morning – plain and chocolate. I also snacked on Lays chips one day… which I am not proud of, but I was craving something quick and salty!

Also worth noting (as I mentioned above) we visited Erin McKenna’s vegan and gluten free bakery in Disney Springs. I’ll be honest – I was disappointed and not impressed. The baked goods looked and tasted pretty stale. They did not have much flavor, either… I am not sure if I just picked the wrong things or if I went on a bad day. Plus, it looked kinda dirty. It has mixed reviews overall… so I guess I am just a part of the batch that really truly wanted to LOVE it but couldn’t really. I still think it is amazing that they have a place like this there! So, props to that. Plus, the donut they had at my hotel was pretty good. So I can’t knock it too much.

Well there you have it – an entire week’s worth of vegan eating at Disney World. There is a ton of variety, and you really do have options… just do not be afraid to ask. Most places will not have allergy-friendly items on the menu unless you specifically ask, so never hesitate. I’ve clearly always love visiting Disney and the way they handle veganism and allergies makes it all the more magical!

Universal was a different story, but I will definitely be talking more about it on a different day. Stay tuned ;)

Let me know if you’ve had a good experience as a vegan in Disney… would love to hear from you! xx bianca
