The second trimester update! Not going to lie – this was a glorious time to be pregnant. Aside from the minor aches and pains that come along with it, I had my appetite back in full force and all the energy in the world. We got so much done! I’ll recap the weeks below and basically just gush each week about how amazing her kicks are. It’s indescribable.
As I start to write this, I have to laugh because no one knows (aside from immediate family) that I am pregnant. By the time I wrap this up and do post it, you’ll all be in the know. It feels like it is so far away (8 more weeks!) but I have a feeling that it is going to fly by. I absolutely cannot wait.
I wanted to give updates week-by-week for anyone who is interested in this sort of this. My blog will not be a pregnancy blog by any means, but still – a lifestyle blog that will capture what is happening in my world at the moment. Pregnancy will take up a portion of that, and eventually raising a vegetarian/plant-based baby. I can see this blog evolving as my own life continues to, and I think that is beautiful. I hope you guys stick around to evolve with me, too.
So, in an effort to capture the little details of my pregnancy journey, I’ll try to jot down key points here. I’ll try my best to do this for each trimester. Okay, here we go!
NOTE: This pic was taken during week 8 – I promise you’ll see some bump pics next time. I need to get better at recording them!
I’m absolutely bursting at the seams right now. I am NOT good at holding in secrets and this lime-sized one has been absolutely killing me. We’re expecting a daughter in the warm, sunny days of September 2017!
There are no words to express how blessed and thrilled Joe and I are to be able to share this news – it still hasn’t fully hit us, quite honestly. But each day, it becomes a little more real. It’s pure magic.
It’s about time, right? I’ve always used my personal IG account for The Friendly Fig, but think it is about time for an exclusive account – dedicated to vegan food, updates, + more plant-based goodness. I hope you’ll follow along! I can’t wait to start following you guys, too. xx bianca

Hi friends! I thought this would be a different and fun post. I feel like I know so many of you just through social media and commenting… but I’d love to get to know you all a bit better – while sharing some things about myself, too. I came up with 25 questions to answer honestly, and I am sharing them here.
Please, if you have the time, share some or all of the answers in the comments below. I would love to get to know all of you better! It would honestly make my day.
See questions after the break. Happy reading and answering! :)
If you’ve been following along for some time, you know that I am in a relationship with Trader Joe’s. I think I say this every time I write a post about them… it’s fine.
There has been so many great vegan products exploding out of TJ’s lately that I had to round-up all of my favorite vegan items. And no, these are not all of them. The best thing about Trader Joe’s is that they continue to revamp and add new items to their stores each month. There is really never a shortage in cool new products, and the best part – like 80% of them are vegetarian or vegan. This store is literally a dream.
Hi guys. Lately, I’ve been feeling like I should write a detailed post about why I chose a vegan diet. I get this question a lot, especially when someone finds out for the first time. I’ll be honest – it never feels great when someone asks “why?” in a weird, defensive tone. Sometimes, I’ll laugh it off and try to get off the subject quickly. If you catch me on an off day, I might be a little more blunt about it, or sound defensive myself. But I get it – people just want to know why I would stop eating certain products, and they may assume I am depriving myself (not at all, by the way).
I’d like to share my story here and hope that anyone reading this sees my choice in new light, and understands where I am coming from. People eat vegan for a variety of different reasons, but this is mine.
Read at your own discretion – I talk about this pretty candidly.
After a much-needed hiatus, I’m happy to say that I’m finally ready to make a comeback. Between the wedding, freelance work, and starting a new (and amazing!) job opportunity, I was really strapped for time. I was also starting to feel like the blog was more of a chore than entertainment (and I never wanted to feel like that!) Taking time away gave me time to recharge, relax, and become inspired all over again.
With my two-year vegan anniversary today (yay!), I finally thought, “okay yeah, it’s time to dive back in.” I have an editorial calendar full of ideas, and hope that all you who have stuck around will share anything you want me to write about!
While I took time off, I did realize a couple things that I will be doing differently this time around…
#1: I burnt myself out by aiming to post every day, including weekends. I hope someday I will have the time to do that again, but for now, I am going to stick to 1-2 posts a week – the same good stuff… recipes, tips, cruelty-free finds, and even some personal/inspirational posts. I think this will give me enough time to write the best posts that I can, while still allowing me to enjoy my weekends and not feel too overwhelmed.
#2: The recipes may not be as *extravagant* as before. While I am obsessed with the rock candy donuts, I found that making all the sweet and indulgent meals left me putting on extra pounds, and spending extra money at the grocery store. I want this blog to be a true reflection of who I am and how I live every day. This means mostly whole food meals – easy and quick dishes. I really hope that you still find inspiration in them, and you can always head over to the dessert section and browse past recipes! I am not saying NO dessert by any means, just maybe less ;)
So, that is what you can expect from the Friendly Fig moving forward, and I hope that you’re down with that. I cannot wait to hear from you guys again, and keep on spreading that kind word.
Please say hello and let me know who’s still here… I am so excited to be back! Posts will start tomorrow :-D xx bianca
I cannot believe it has been 1 year since Sara and I started The Friendly Fig. It’s been so much fun putting together our thoughts and recipes… and e-meeting so many of you. I feel like I know you guys!! Whether we are friends on the blog, IG, or even FB for some of you, it’s just so great to connect with people who have like-minds and morals. I still can’t believe our traffic some days… I’m like wait, people are reading this and commenting?!
Okay people, if you have been following along and know me… you know I do not like vegan cheese. I think it tastes fake and just doesn’t compare to the real thing… so I just omit it from my diet all together.
Holy shit, I take it all back. ALL HAIL MIYOKO’S GOURMET CHEESE PRODUCTS. This amazing and kind company sent me over some samples, and I couldn’t stop myself from inhaling them. No joke. So, I’m here to give a brief review for anyone who may also have trouble finding a good vegan cheese, or you know, someone who just wants to add to their favorites.
