These are my favorite kind of names – names that you find in the natural world. I can remember being in elementary school science class as my teacher discussed flora and fauna. I remember thinking then that I loved the way “flora and fauna” rolled off the tongue. It always stuck with me for some reason, and now here I am writing a blog post with the phrase in the title.
For those of you who may not know, flora means plant life and fauna means animal life. These are two of my favorite things, right? Combine that with baby names and here’s a list that makes my heart siiiing (and very appropriate for the start of summer!) If any of you share the name obsession with me, I hope that you enjoy what I’ve put together. These names are sweet and quirky – perfect for any mama birds out there looking for boho/earthy names inspired by nature.
Before I adopted a vegan diet, I enjoyed my fair share of junk food. One of my favorite nostalgic snacks growing up is cheese puffs. There’s just something about them!! But of course, I can’t remember the last time I ate cheese puffs, even before going vegan. It just wasn’t something I bought on the regular.
Enter HIPPEAS. I picked up the vegan white cheddar at Starbucks once (airport snacks for the win) and was blown away by how similar they were to my favorite childhood snack, but also… really, chickpeas?! Even better. Vegan, organic, gluten-free, and non-gmo. With 4 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber in a bag, I was sold. And I really couldn’t get over how dead on they were for flavor.
If you know me personally or have been to my home, you know that I am pretty much obsessed with pink himalayan salt lamps, candles, and even the edible stuff. At my wedding, we had a candle on every table, and in my home, I have lamps in (almost) every room.
To be honest, I love them mostly because they add warmth and bring a gorgeous glow to the room – but, there are also benefits to these lamps (or so, it it claimed). I can’t say for certain that all of these are true, but I do know that they definitely have a calming effect – and that is enough for me. When I was going through a rough/stressful period in my life, I used to get up extra early, turn on my lamp, and just relax. It was and still is my favorite routine to start my day on the right note. When we are lounging at night (or even while I bulk cook on the weekends), I leave that thing running hot. There’s just something very comforting about it!
Spring – so happy that you’ve finally showed up. The winter blues were starting to get to me (and I’m very much done with snow until next year!) The season of rebirth and renewal – the season of an awakening. Birds chirping, flowers blooming, and the sun shining. The Earth is warm, and the ground is defrosting. It’s a shame that most of our spring in New England can be rainy and wet. But hey, I’ll take the rain over the snow anytime. And mostly, I am excited for our large Cherry Blossom tree to bloom in the front yard – it’s what I look forward to most.
Here’s another seasonal inspiration + appreciation post.
When we found out the gender… basically, it was all over. Let the shopping begin. And when I found out it’s a GIRL on top of that… eeeee! Let’s just say it took everything in me to not spend my entire paycheck on Etsy items.
I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites – you know, so maybe it won’t just be my ovaries exploding over here alone. Haha!
I’m absolutely bursting at the seams right now. I am NOT good at holding in secrets and this lime-sized one has been absolutely killing me. We’re expecting a daughter in the warm, sunny days of September 2017!
There are no words to express how blessed and thrilled Joe and I are to be able to share this news – it still hasn’t fully hit us, quite honestly. But each day, it becomes a little more real. It’s pure magic.
I promised a little while back to talk more about the ways that I cope with stress and anxiety. Over the past few months, I’ve been focused on creating a safe, comfortable space at home – quiet, zen, natural, tranquil… all the good stuff that makes for a happy home. These small changes have taken me away from the chaos of life, and have helped me to calm down. It has honestly been – for me – one of the best ways for me to cope. There’s something about shifting the ambiance that can work wonders on your mood. I don’t expect this to work for everyone, because it’s important to find what works for your individual needs, but I’d like to share my experience. If anything at all, you’ll develop a newfound love for your home. That alone is worth it.
Hey there friends – another round-up of what I’ve been noshing on. Sorry there aren’t too many – it’s been busy over here and I’ve been forgetful. But hey – there’s some ideas! Enjoy. xx
Oh, and as always, follow along on Instagram for plant-based food inspiration!
Artistic and creative spirits are some of my favorite people. Not only do I work on a design time myself, but I’ve just always connected to creatives (I mean, I majored in English/Creative Writing with a minor in art). That said, I love names that evoke that same artistic aura. These may or may not resonate with you the same way they do me, but here’s a list of names that I personally compiled that I feel captures a creative spirit. Enjoy the inspiration – whether you are a name lover like me or a mama bear on the hunt for the perfect moniker. xx
Hi friends – especially local friends :)
For the smallest state, we really pack a lot of vegan and plant-based options here. Joe and I are always looking for a new place to try, and quite honestly, we never have too much trouble. Rhode Island is extremely vegan friendly, especially our Providence capital. I’ve reviewed a ton of local places on here before – you can find more posts HERE, HERE, and HERE (this one is particularly great for coffee lovers). Since my last post, we’ve fallen in love with a whole new batch of spots.
If you’re local or in the New England area, I encourage you to give these places your business – they’re all wonderful.
