Baby Girl Jungle Nursery Tour

Nesting: Our Nursery Tour

I’m soooo excited to finally be sharing this post! I was really dragging on taking photos (some are not the best quality, but I tried my best with the lighting). But finally, here we are. The room is ready and I’m pretty much losing my mind over seeing her sweet little face. Only a few more weeks!

So… I don’t really know what to call the theme? It’s sort of all the things I love… animals, flowers, bright colors, etc. I guess you could say it is a girly version of a jungle or Lion King theme, maybe? Whatever it is, it is bright, colorful, and airy and just makes me so happy. I find myself just sitting in here and looking around, soaking it up. It’s my favorite room in the house.

I’ll try and share as much detail as to where I got some of the sweet products and decor, too. So without any other introduction, welcome to our nursery!

Pregnant Vegan Meals - Third Trimester

What I’ve Been Eating Lately [Vegan Pregnancy – Third Trimester]

Lots of calcium, protein, and as much nutrients as I can get as I come in on the home stretch. I can’t believe we’re in the single digits for weeks left in this pregnancy. I’d say I’ve eaten pretty well (with the exception of the first trimester… that really sucked). If you’re interested in seeing past food posts during this pregnancy, you can browse them all here.

30 Blog Posts for Vegan Plant-Based Beginners

30 Blog Posts for Vegan/Plant-Based Beginners

I can’t believe it’s been three years this month since the Friendly Fig started! I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this blog and community, and how much I enjoy sharing pieces of my life with you guys. So much love and compliments from people – people I know and complete strangers who have turned into friends. It’s very cool to see how the blog has evolved.

To celebrate, I wanted to share some of my favorite posts to date. This blog started as a way to share tips on eating plant-based/vegan/vegetarian. I wanted to show the world just how easy it is to enjoy food without ending an animal’s life. There have been so many posts written for beginners to get started – because at the end of the day, people truly fear what they do not know. I hope I do an okay job sharing my own personal tips and advice to lessen the fear of “what do I eat then?” and inspire for a healthier and kinder diet. Below are 30 blog posts for beginners that – I believe – embody all that you need to know for a successful and seamless transition.

Choosing a Name: Our Favorites

Choosing a Name: Our Favorites

Hi friends! I think everyone here knows how obsessed with names I am by now (based on, you know, all the name posts). But when it actually comes time to name your really-truly-on-the-way baby… Joe and I bumped heads a bit. Names that I thought I loved suddenly didn’t feel right, and vice versa. It took us a little bit, but I think we finally have a strong first and middle contender. Her name is being used in our home and we’re getting used to calling it/saying it/singing it/the whole nine. We decided that we’re going to keep her moniker a secret from the online world until she’s born, but I thought I’d share our working list! These are some of the names we tossed around (and most of the time, did not agree on) but hey. They’re all gorgeous!

Any guesses on what we’re naming her? ;)

Flora Fauna Baby Name Ideas

Flora and Fauna Baby Names

These are my favorite kind of names – names that you find in the natural world. I can remember being in elementary school science class as my teacher discussed flora and fauna. I remember thinking then that I loved the way “flora and fauna” rolled off the tongue. It always stuck with me for some reason, and now here I am writing a blog post with the phrase in the title.

For those of you who may not know, flora means plant life and fauna means animal life. These are two of my favorite things, right? Combine that with baby names and here’s a list that makes my heart siiiing (and very appropriate for the start of summer!) If any of you share the name obsession with me, I hope that you enjoy what I’ve put together. These names are sweet and quirky – perfect for any mama birds out there looking for boho/earthy names inspired by nature.

Fitness + Exercise on a Vegan Diet

Fitness + Exercise on a Vegan Diet

Guest Post

Hi, friends! I know a lot of us work out regularly or are going to exercise. That’s a really great idea and I’m all for sport. Actually, I try to attend the gym four times a week and I like running in the morning. It gives me energy for the rest of my day.

Everyone has own reasons to go to the gym. Someone wants to lose weight, someone wants to maintain good health and so on.

If you are vegan or eating a plant-based diet, you must understand some precautions which help you to balance your workouts with the lifestyle and get the desired result.

Money-Saving Tips to Prepare for Baby

How We’re Saving Money Before Baby

Ever since I can remember, I have always been a saver. I owe that all to my parents. They were both very clear about saving money and helped get me started when I was as young as maybe 10 or 12 years old. I got my first job when I was 13 and yes, I loved spending money on clothes and make-up and jewelry and movies and CDs like any other teen girl, but I was always equally as conscious about checking my balances and managing my checkbook. Yes, I still to this day use a checkbook, haha! My husband laughs at me and thinks I am crazy but whatever… I am old school like that and and it really helps keep me on track.

Needless to say, my money-saving and budgeting habits began to rub off on Joe (thankfully) and we’ve be even more conscious lately with baby girl on the way.

There are some days when I say to myself “oh we totally got this, it’s all gonna be great” and then some days when I wake up frazzled and freaking out over saving more more more. Life is going to drastically change and money will be tighter than ever – there is no doubt in my mind – but I am trying my best to focus on the good and know that everything will work out. We will find a way to make things work. We have to!

In an effort to save more money before September, I’ve been a lot more conscious of what we are buying, how we are buying, and non-essentials we can forgo. Whether you are also preparing for a major life change (that will affect your budget) or want to just save a little more, I hope some of these tips inspire you. These are just some of the personal ways we are saving here and there. Nothing too crazy, just things that have been working for us.
