Connecting With Body and Baby

Connecting With Body + Baby

Hi friends – just some musings and thoughts over here. I wasn’t really planning on sitting down and writing this post, but these thoughts have been on my mind… and I just kind of started spilling.

In the first trimester (and even early in the second) when my belly wasn’t showing, some days definitely felt like nothing was going on (well, aside from the reminder from nausea). I didn’t like feeling that way, and it encouraged me to start a daily routine of talking with my babe. Some days I’d be lying in bed before waking up, and sometimes it would be the quiet moments while lying in bed before Joe settled in. Just me and my little girl (and some lavender pillow spray).

Spring Musings

Spring Thoughts

Spring – so happy that you’ve finally showed up. The winter blues were starting to get to me (and I’m very much done with snow until next year!) The season of rebirth and renewal – the season of an awakening. Birds chirping, flowers blooming, and the sun shining. The Earth is warm, and the ground is defrosting. It’s a shame that most of our spring in New England can be rainy and wet. But hey, I’ll take the rain over the snow anytime. And mostly, I am excited for our large Cherry Blossom tree to bloom in the front yard – it’s what I look forward to most.

Here’s another seasonal inspiration + appreciation post.

What I've Been Eating Lately [Vegan Pregnancy - First Trimester]

What I’ve Been Eating Lately [Vegan Pregnancy – First Trimester]

Hey there friends – I’ve been compiling all the things I ate over my first trimester, and now I can finally share with you! So warning, there is A LOT after the cut. Not going to lie though – a lot of what I ate is not on here because it was way too boring and just not interesting (plus I kept forgetting to take photos – rather, did not have the energy or drive to!) I had a rough couple weeks (7-9 were ughhh) and I ate a whole lot of carbs. Think: bread, dry cereal, pasta with butter, crackers, potatoes, frozen waffles, etc. But in between and towards the end, I did get to eat some good stuff and that’s what you’ll find below. Plus… so many oranges. All I want is orange juice and oranges. It’s wild. xx

My First Trimester

My First Trimester

As I start to write this, I have to laugh because no one knows (aside from immediate family) that I am pregnant. By the time I wrap this up and do post it, you’ll all be in the know. It feels like it is so far away (8 more weeks!) but I have a feeling that it is going to fly by. I absolutely cannot wait.

I wanted to give updates week-by-week for anyone who is interested in this sort of this. My blog will not be a pregnancy blog by any means, but still – a lifestyle blog that will capture what is happening in my world at the moment. Pregnancy will take up a portion of that, and eventually raising a vegetarian/plant-based baby. I can see this blog evolving as my own life continues to, and I think that is beautiful. I hope you guys stick around to evolve with me, too.

So, in an effort to capture the little details of my pregnancy journey, I’ll try to jot down key points here. I’ll try my best to do this for each trimester. Okay, here we go!

NOTE: This pic was taken during week 8 – I promise you’ll see some bump pics next time. I need to get better at recording them!

It's A Girl

It’s A Girl!

I’m absolutely bursting at the seams right now. I am NOT good at holding in secrets and this lime-sized one has been absolutely killing me. We’re expecting a daughter in the warm, sunny days of September 2017!

There are no words to express how blessed and thrilled Joe and I are to be able to share this news – it still hasn’t fully hit us, quite honestly. But each day, it becomes a little more real. It’s pure magic.

Plant-Based Life: What I’ve Been Eating Lately

Hey there friends – another round-up of what I’ve been noshing on. Sorry there aren’t too many – it’s been busy over here and I’ve been forgetful. But hey – there’s some ideas! Enjoy. xx

Vegan-Friendly Hot Spots in Rhode Island

Vegan-Friendly Hot Spots in Rhode Island

Hi friends – especially local friends :)

For the smallest state, we really pack a lot of vegan and plant-based options here. Joe and I are always looking for a new place to try, and quite honestly, we never have too much trouble. Rhode Island is extremely vegan friendly, especially our Providence capital. I’ve reviewed a ton of local places on here before – you can find more posts HERE, HERE, and HERE (this one is particularly great for coffee lovers). Since my last post, we’ve fallen in love with a whole new batch of spots.

If you’re local or in the New England area, I encourage you to give these places your business – they’re all wonderful.

Spirit Animal Ink

Spirit Animal Ink

Hi friends – spent some time on the last day of 2016 by getting my third tattoo – and I’m still swooning.

Ever since I could remember, I’ve felt a strong connection to the whale. To be honest, I think it was the movie Free Willy that did it. I was obsessed as a kid, and ever since then, it was orca and whale everything. I had a whale themed bedroom, a ton of books, went whale watching as often as time and money allowed, and wanted to be a marine biologist. While the marine biologist bit didn’t stick, my connection never faded. I’ve been wanting a tattoo on my forearm for a while now, and I knew that a whale friend would be the perfect addition. I love tattoos, but I am picky and very cautious. But with the whale, I just knew that every time I look at it, I’ll smile. That will never change. They make me so happy.

So friends, meet my spirit animal, Luna. Of course I had to name her. Symbolism is a large part of what I do for a living, so I wrote a quick excerpt of what she means to me.
