The holiday season is upon us! I don’t like to even think about Christmas before Thanksgiving, but the day after, it’s all bets off. Fa la la la la. I love giving gifts. This year I have so many fun things I want to get people but, well, moneys and stuff. But I still spend hours poring over wish lists and going after catalogs with my Sharpie. So I have lists and lists of great stuff to share with you. This post is the first in a series of gift guides, so stay tuned!
If you’re like me, you have someone in your life who is just getting into cooking (hi, John!). They probably don’t have everything they need in their kitchen. Any item from this list is sure to help out!
A Great Knife Set
A high-quality knife set can do anything. It can slice and dice. It can fly to the moon. It can solve global warming. But a set of knives can be pretty expensive. On more of a budget? Try just a chef’s knife. Pair it with a cutting board and a cute tea towel you’ve got yourself a perfect little bundle.
A Blue Apron Subscription (or Similar)
Blue Apron is so cool. They’ll deliver all the ingredients and directions for a delicious meal right to your doorstep. The perfect gift for someone just getting started in the kitchen! They don’t have a vegan option, but many of their vegetarian options are vegan or can easily be made vegan. Want to try something else? Try searching for local produce deliveries in your area. Many farms will deliver a box of fresh veggies to your door once a week! The best part? You’re supporting local farmers.
A Good Quality Skillet
If your giftee has no other pans, get them an oven-safe frying pan or skillet. They can be thrown under the broiler or in the oven without worry. Calphalon has a great selection of moderately priced options that will last forever!
A Spice Gift Set
Spices! So many options! Penzey’s is my favorite for spices, and they have some great gift sets. Or, you can buy in bulk at your local natural foods store (most have a bulk section) or Whole Foods and buy some cute little bottles and jar them yourself. Try putting together an assortment of your own must-have herbs and spices!
Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar
My parents got me a huge jar of balsamic for Christmas one year and it was one of my favorite gifts. The best! Give a bottle of your favorite balsamic and olive oil, or peruse your local Italian market for some really good options. Yum.
What would you give the wannabe cook in your life? Happy shopping! Xo Sara
