January Doesn't Suck - The Friendly Fig

Top 5 Reasons January is Pretty Okay

Yes, it’s January. The post-holiday letdown is in full swing. But smile, babe- it looks good on you! We bring you the top 5 reasons January doesn’t suck.

#1. Books.

They’re cozy to curl up with, and easy to take wherever you damn well please. They can transport you out of this nightmarish month, if that’s how you see it. It’s National Book Month. So read books! (Up next for me: Breakfast at Tiffany’s, finally. Love me some Capote.)

#2. Soup.

It really is good for the soul. Not to mention a great use for odds and ends in your fridge. This one’s got celery, leeks and spring onions, and homemade croutons. It’s also National Soup Month (I can’t make this stuff up). Mange, mange!

#3. Flannel.

Flannel sheets, flannel pants, flannel shirts, flannel scarves…you get the idea. It looks good, it feels good. Gimme.

#4. Hot Toddies.

Hot chocolate. Lattes. Hot cider. (With rum? 0o0o. I like the way you think.) A warm drink is a great way to unwind.

#5. Winter Gallivanting.

More specifically, without a list of holiday things to do hanging over your head. With that chaos behind you, ski, skate or sled. Go for a winter stroll. The air is invigorating – take full advantage!

Be kind to our friend January. She never wanted to come after Christmas and ruin all of your dreams. January offers a snow-covered calm you don’t see in other months. Enjoy.

  1. Not my favourite month here in Saskatchewan, but I agree with most of your points. Except -30 C is not always invigorating. But then I will just retreat to #1-4. :)

  2. What?! People don’t like January??! I love it! I think it’s full of promises, a new beginning, like a Monday after (too) long weekend, time to play with my new toys and time to relax and get back to normal after all that crazy holiday stuff and I get all my Etsy packages delivered on time again!
    Happy January!
