I love when music just feels pretty – here’s a playlist of some of my favorite dreamy, mesmerizing, and thought-evoking songs. I hope you enjoy – happy easy listening. xx b
Hi friends – especially local friends :)
For the smallest state, we really pack a lot of vegan and plant-based options here. Joe and I are always looking for a new place to try, and quite honestly, we never have too much trouble. Rhode Island is extremely vegan friendly, especially our Providence capital. I’ve reviewed a ton of local places on here before – you can find more posts HERE, HERE, and HERE (this one is particularly great for coffee lovers). Since my last post, we’ve fallen in love with a whole new batch of spots.
If you’re local or in the New England area, I encourage you to give these places your business – they’re all wonderful.
Hi friends – spent some time on the last day of 2016 by getting my third tattoo – and I’m still swooning.
Ever since I could remember, I’ve felt a strong connection to the whale. To be honest, I think it was the movie Free Willy that did it. I was obsessed as a kid, and ever since then, it was orca and whale everything. I had a whale themed bedroom, a ton of books, went whale watching as often as time and money allowed, and wanted to be a marine biologist. While the marine biologist bit didn’t stick, my connection never faded. I’ve been wanting a tattoo on my forearm for a while now, and I knew that a whale friend would be the perfect addition. I love tattoos, but I am picky and very cautious. But with the whale, I just knew that every time I look at it, I’ll smile. That will never change. They make me so happy.
So friends, meet my spirit animal, Luna. Of course I had to name her. Symbolism is a large part of what I do for a living, so I wrote a quick excerpt of what she means to me.
Winter is officially here. Living in New England, we get a pretty cold winter… and I am anticipating a lot of snow this season. I actually don’t mind it much during the holidays, but I do tend to get the seasonal depression/winter blues once the middle of January/February comes around. I’m going to try my very best to embrace the cold (but also toasty!) months ahead. There’s a lot of good in winter, too. New beginnings, the month of love, my birthday. I have a lot to be grateful for, and I am going to try to remember that when those blues start to creep in.
I’d like to start a new seasonal series where I take time to reflect on the season and all the things that I love about it. I think it will help me to see and appreciate all that the time of year has to offer.
Winter is a time to cozy up with loved ones, read a book that you’ve been trying to make time for, wear your warmest flannel pajamas and fuzziest socks, drink hot beverages in bed, breathe in the chill of the air, catch up on your favorite tv shows or rewatch the classics with a loved one, bake something delicious, write down your thoughts, or simply take the time to sit still and reflect.
Random facts about myself after the cut – thought this would be a cool way to share some personal and quirky things about myself. I want to get to know you, too… so please share some facts about yourself in the comments. xx
Inspiration overload right here. Another round-up of all the belly-filling, nutritious bowls of food that I have been eating. And you know… vegan donuts. Have you noticed a trend yet? Basically… throw a bunch of veggies, grains, and whatever-else-is-in-the-fridge into a bowl and call it a meal. Works for me!
Also – I have been sharing my meal photos much more now that I finally created a separate Instagram account for the blog! If you haven’t already, please please follow along… lots of plant-based foodie love. My handle is @thefriendlyfig. xx
Happy Friday! Lots going on lately – Joe’s birthday was yesterday (love!) We’ve also started browsing the market for a new house… in no rush to move, but it is definitely exciting to look around! My brother is coming home SO soon for Thanksgiving. Like I said… lots of things – lots of awesome things. Here’s life lately. xx
Time to share my vegan experience at Universal Orlando Studios, Islands of Adventure, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! I’ll be blunt and upfront about it – it’s not very vegan-friendly when you compare it to Disney. HOWEVER, it was certainly not impossible for me. I took a few photos of what I ate, and will recap some of the other items I didn’t snap but still enjoyed. Out of any place, Wizarding World was the easiest place to veganize (yay!) And the pumpkin juice was vegan, so all was well with me.
I’ve been eating a plant-based/vegan diet for over 2 1/2 years now. I love that so much. When I stop and think about it, it really does make me step back and realize all the changes that my body has went through, and how crazy it is to think how I used to eat. It is mind-boggling, really! I wanted to share a modest list of some of the changes that happened after I cut out all meat, dairy, and animal-based products. They may seem minor, but not to me! Some are quirky, some are expected… but all have changed how I feel as a human, and for the better.
I’m proud of what my diet and health looks like in this moment vs. me 3 years ago.
