Fall Reading List & Recommendations

Fall Reading List & Recommendations

Hi friends! If you’ve been here a while, you know my love for autumn runs deep (Fiona’s middle name is Autumn… so there’s that). And reading is just about one of my favorite things to do always, but especially in the fall. Bring on all the cozy books, blankets, fuzzy socks, thermals, candles, and lamps.

I pulled together a list of the books that I hope to get through this season… we’ll see how far I get. But the majority of these bring all the cozy fall vibes, and some spooky, too. I am also including a list of books I have already read that I think will be PERFECT for the season. Let me know if you plan on reading any of these or have read. x

On my fall reading list:

The Simplicity of Cider by Amy E. Reichert: I tried to read this one last year but ended up putting it down and forgot to pick it back up. OOPS! Take two.

Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney: This may not be fall vibes but it is Rooney’s new novel so it has to be read. I loved Normal People but not so much Conversations with Friends, but her writing is ALWAYS beautiful and engaging. I can’t wait to see where this one falls for me.

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix: A supernatural thriller set in the 90s featuring a women’s book club and handsome vampire. I’m IN!!

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia: I have heard big things about this book and I figure now is the best season to pick it up and see what the fuss is all about.

Books I’ve read & are perfect for fall:

Verity by Colleen Hoover: Colleen’s most twisted book yet. If you love CoHo, give this spooky one a read.

Layla by Colleen Hoover: And speaking of spooky CoHo, I liked Layla more than Verity, Very eerie!

Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang: One of my favorite reads from this year, the atmosphere and story is so whimsical and magical. It is absolutely perfect to cozy up with.

– Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte: If you have been living under a rock and have not read Jane Eyre, do yourself and favor and pick it up during the fall. It is the very best time to become acquainted with Jane and Mr. Rochester. <3 It is my classic of all time.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab: Another one of my favorite reads of 2021… what a stunning story. Just beautiful and eerie and mysterious and perfect and romantic for cozy autumn nights. I would say if you pick one book from this list, make it this one.

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner: This book brings all the mysterious vibes with a heavy dash of girl power. I LOVED LOVED LOVE this one!!

The Guest List by Lucy Foley: If you need a fast-paced thriller that will keep you guessing until the last few chapters, The Guest List is very well done.

The Woman in the Window by AJ Finn: And alongside the above, the Woman in the Window is another one of my favorite read-in-a-weekend thrillers because you can’t put it down. The movie is also on Netflix so read the book first and then have a spooky movie weekend with your spouse or friends.

– The City Baker’s Guide to Country Living by Louise Miller: If you want a light-hearted read that will give you all the Gilmore Girls vibes, this is such a sweet one!

– The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: The writing is GORGEOUS and the entire book is so atmospheric and mysterious and descriptive… just a stunning novel from start to finish. It has magic, mystery, and romance.

The Book of Hygge: The Danish Art of Living Well by Lousia Thomsen Brits: It wouldn’t be a cozy book list without a hygge recommendation. This is an especially helpful read if you have trouble letting go of summer and embracing the cold and darker days. Hygge has helped me to fall in love with impending winters all over again.
