Hi friends,
A few weeks back, I was open about how I have been feeling these days and how I am trying to find happiness in the little things among all the big bad things swirling around lately (especially in our newsfeed). It made me want to write a post that specially calls out all those little joys in our lives so that we can be more mindful of them in the moment. If you aren’t in tune and going through the motions (let’s be real, most of us) then they are easy to overlook. And what better time to slow down and savor then September? September is a warm hug of a month, and I for one, am overjoyed by her arrival.
So here’s a gentle reminder, from one doomscrolling friend to another. There are some really simple things that bring delight to our lives during this time of year. Like…
- Opening your eyes to see another sunrise
- A perfect foam latte
- Foggy mornings
- Fuzzy socks
- Comfort and warmth found in bowl of soup
- Basking in sunlight, outside or through the window
- Crisp mornings and crunchy leaves
- The anticipation for changing leaves
- The Gilmore Girls theme song
- A dreamy orange sunset
- The smell of pumpkin spice, watching the steam billow out from your favorite mug
- The first taste of kettle corn at a local farmer’s market or festival
- The comfort of your favorite hoodie
- Flannel pajamas
- The first bite of pumpkin bread
- Listening to your teapot bubble and boil while you make tea
- Twinkle lights and lamps for darker evenings
- The crunch of leaves underfoot
- The breeze gently swaying your curtains when the windows are open
- Apple cider, apple pie, apple crisp, apple butter… they exist in this wondrous world
- Cozying up with a good book and nowhere to be
- Being in the middle of a pumpkin patch
- The sound of rain pitter-pattering on the window panes
- Enjoying your coffee outside
- Starting a new show or restarting a comfort one
- A bonfire with family and friends
- Spying (and smelling) a puffing chimney in the neighborhood
- Burning a new fall candle
- The scent of cinnamon
- Cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven
- Pulling out your favorite well-loved and worn boots
- Visiting a new cafe for a seasonal beverage
- Painting your nails a warm color
- Perusing the shelves in a bookshop
- Watching the leaves dance from the trees
- Indulging in a fall movie marathon
- The security and warmth of a plush blanket
- The Great British Baking Show and a cuppa tea
- A pair of new slippers
- Watching the birds fuel up for their migration
Have a beautiful autumn, friends. x
