It’s #WCW!
In the past, I’ve posted about my struggle with positive body image. You can see that real talk, here. But, at last, I am on the road to a healthier relationship with my body. It feels absolutely wonderful to not worry about a number on the scale, but to work with what I’ve got and strive to live as healthy as possible.
One of the many things I love to do when I’m feeling a little less than stellar is to admire women who have those same delicious, curvaceous features as I do. Mostly, it helps me to see what pieces work best on my body type. But their words and confidence rub off on me, and that always helps. Spreading positive vibes from one lady to the next. That’s what I hope this post does for any of you who may feel the same at times!
Also – We’re all beautiful – every damn one of our sizes and shapes. I’m just writing this based on my own personal experience and body type :)
These are the incredible women who inspire me:
Christina Hendricks
The goddess of all bodies. Christina is so beautiful and knows how to work her body type. I’m obsessed with her – everything about her. She even snapped at a publicist who tried to ask her about her “full-figure.”
Quoted: “Back when I was modeling, the first time I went to Italy, I was having cappuccinos every day, and I gained 15 pounds. And I felt gorgeous! I would take my clothes off in front of the mirror and be like, ‘Oh, I look like a woman.’ And I felt beautiful, and I never tried to lose it, ’cause I loved it.”
Gemma Arterton
One of my biggest ladies crushes of all time. I saw Gemma in the Hanzel & Gretel remake and fell in love. She’s spoken in interviews about how strongly she feels about being a positive body image role model for young girls. In one interview, she said, “I’m really passionate about it because women are wonderful and we come in all shapes and sizes and that’s OK.”
Quoted: “It is ridiculous. I went to a designer the other day – who will remain nameless – and he said to me: I’m amazed that you’re fitting into these sample sizes. I said, I’m a size eight to ten! I should be amazed that the largest you’re making these is a size six.”
Amber Benson
So, I can’t even talk about Tara from Buffy without wanting to cry. Though she was only on for a short time, she quickly became one of my favorite characters on the show. Still mourning over here death. Anyways, one thing I really loved about her character? She looks REAL. I was really surprised she got some hate about her size, too. People are crazy! But as perfect as she is, she handled it quite well in this open message to the haters. How can you not love her?
Quoted: “Thank you for sticking up for us. Tara and I both appreciate it. I think that being a beautiful, heavy, lesbian witch rocks! No matter what happens I’m glad I get the chance to walk in Tara’s shoes. All you girls and guys out there who think that starving, binging and purging and exercising yourself to DEATH is gonna change how you feel inside– It’s NOT. Don’t buy into all the media crap. Love yourself for who you are, not what others THINK you should look like. It’s DEFINITELY more important in this life to love each other despite our imperfections.”
Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer stand-up – have you ever listened? You’ll die laughing. I can’t even deal with some of the shit she says… tears in eyes, every time!! A lot of her stand-up is about her body type, and it’s fucking hilarious, raw, and honest.
Quoted: “I’m probably like 160 lbs. right now, and I can catch a dick whenever I want. It’s not a problem. It’s not a problem. I’m not going to apologize for who I am and I’m going to actually love the skin that I’m in. I’m not gonna be striving for some other version of myself.”
Bryce Dallas Howard
Bryce was scrutinized for her body in the past, but why? JUST LOOK AT HER. Have you seen Jurassic World yet? Just go. She’ll capture your heart. She’s also stated that her body is her best friend – which I love! While taking a BuzzFeed quiz, she was faced with the question to describe her body. She went with this: “So I’m gonna go with ‘sturdy.’ I’m very sturdy and very proud of it.”
Quoted: “I would say ‘junk in the trunk,’ but it’s not junk.”
Mindy Kaling
Huge Office fan right here, so Mindy obviously makes the list. Her book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, discusses her own body image struggles growing up, with a comedic Mindy-esque twist. Get to know her.
Quoted: “There’s a whole list of things I would probably change about myself. For example, I’m always trying to lose fifteen pounds. But I never need to be skinny. I don’t want to be skinny. I’m constantly in a state of self-improvement but I don’t beat myself up over it.”
Oh, and I know the pic says 5… but there are 6. OOPS.
Who’s your lady body love? Would love to hear who inspires you. xx bianca
