Guys, I stumbled upon a recipe for Hass Avocado Wings with Buffalo Sauce. Which would have been my first wish if I had a genie. Now when I encounter said genie, I avocaDON’T have to waste a wish.
Yes, these are a thing! And bonus – they’re baked, not fried. They take maybe 15 minutes to make, and a few hot seconds to gobble up. Here’s the how to. (Note: I veered from the original recipe based on what I had in the house and use regularly, so adapt as you see fit.)
Ingredients:
- 3-4 ripe avocados, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch wedges
- Juice of 3 fresh limes
- 1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
- Your preferred buffalo sauce (I mix Sriracha and Frank’s. Both vegan. An incredible combo. Do it.)
To prepare:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Peel and slice your avocados, and juice your limes into a bowl. I found I needed a LOT more lime juice than the original recipe called for, but use your judgement.
Step 2: Sprinkle avocado wedges with lime juice, and toss them gently in bread crumbs.
Step 3: Line a baking sheet with foil, and place the breaded wedges on the sheet.
Step 4: Cook avocado wedges until the edges begin to brown. It took about 20 minutes for me.
Step 5: Toss those bad Larrys into a hot concoction of your choosing.
Step 6: Arrange and enjoy.
How did these fare at the party I brought them to, where I strategically dropped them and ran, to see how people would react? I was asked for the recipe twice, my culinary connoisseur brother called them “great,” and my chicken lovin’ hubby, Eric asked if they were reaalllly avocado. Guess I was feelin’ spicy that day, cause I went a little heavy on the hot sauce. I’d probably ease up a bit next time, but otherwise, great success!
Now to find a killer veg dipping sauce as a sidekick…
