25 Ways to Add Whimsy To Your Life

25 Ways to Add Whimsy To Your Life

Life is too short to be serious and without whimsy. I know some of the following may sound silly to you, but I really believe that a little whimsy goes a long way when it comes to joy in your daily life. I know that I can do little to control what is happening in the world and if I sat and doomscrolled and tried to make sense of it, I would be in a miserable pit of despair. Instead, I focus on the things that I can directly control and that is where whimsy comes in. I can choose to be silly and find magic in little things. These things make me ME and they are helpful in staying grounded and positive in a world that doesn’t feel much that way anymore. You feel me? Can you relate?

So here are some ways that we can all add a little more whimsy to our life.

~ Wear a bold headband or add ribbon to your ponytail.

~ Find seasonal sweaters or tops that you only wear when the season arrives – something to look forward to!

~ Wear the damn pumpkin earrings when it’s October.

~ Add a window birdfeeder to your home and welcome new friends. Bonus points if you chat with them once they arrive.

~ Speaking of chatting, I hope we are all talking to our pets like they can understand us. Talking to animals? Always whimsical.

~ Collect stones, leaves, flowers, shells, sea glass, or whatever other natural item you find joy in.

~ Put twinkle lights around your home year-round (not just for winter!)

~ Get lost in a cozy game like Animal Crossing or Tiny Bookshop.

~ Name your car.

~ Name your plants. Name all the things, really.

~ Light candles at dinner. No matter how unfancy your meal may be.

~ Play Disney music while you clean the house and sing your heart out.

~ Listen to epic instrumental playlists as you go about your day to feel like your living in a movie.

~ Add stickers to your notebooks/planners. Expression!

~ Have a favorite go-to mug that you know always lifts your spirits.

~ Get excited over little things. For me, I am in complete awe every night when I watch the sunset and this has become a thing my kids associate me with. It makes me so happy.

~ Paint your front door (if you’re able) a color that makes you happy. We recently painted our a sage green and it’s irrational how happy it makes me.

~ Color in a grown up coloring book. I have my eye on this one.

~ Play Super Mario, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, or whatever is a nostalgic video game for you. You will feel like a kid again.

~ Plant bulbs in the autumn to have something beautiful in the spring.

~ Upgrade your pajamas and wear cute matching sets. So often we wear old tees, right? Don’t! Look cute and feel put together and adorable.

~ Take a walk in the rain instead of shying away. Wear rainboots. Jump in puddles.

~ Personify inanimate objects. Once upon a time I had a car who I called Reggie. All my close friends knew who Reggie was.

~ Lay on a blanket in your yard or park and read. Or in bed. In the middle of the day. It’s time wasted. It’s very much the opposite.

~ Be unapologetically YOU. Embrace your quirks and be who you are. No shame. That is the ultimate way to be whimsical.
