Hi friends,
Writing these thoughts down brought me a lot of joy today. These are simple reminders but still, they evoke so much happiness. I love everything about this season and if you are the same, I think taking a moment to read these words will feel like a warm hug on a chilly day.
I invite you to slow down with me this season and really take notice of the little things in our daily lives over the next few weeks. Autumn, you wondrous and wonderful season.
- The crunch of leaves beneath your boots
- Fuzzy wool socks against your skin
- Crisp mornings that warm up by afternoon
- Mushrooms that pop up after a rainy day
- The first crisp and juicy bite of an apple plucked from its tree
- The vibrant colors of mums in your neighborhood
- The squirrels digging and gathering food in your yard
- Flocks of birds landing in unison to fuel up for their migration
- The honking of geese in a v-formation overhead
- The flickering of candlelight
- Early autumn sunsets from orange to deep blue
- The smell of pumpkin pie in the oven
- The dancing of bare branches on a blustery, windy day
- The rolling of fog in the morning
- The way the steam curls from your morning cup of tea or coffee
- The savory smell of pumpkin seeds roasting in the oven
- The feel of your scarf wrapped snuggly around your neck
- The feel of fresh flannel sheets when you slide into bed at night
- Mornings so cold you can see your breath
- The sound of a crackling fireplace
- The glow of twinkle lights at dusk
- The silence of an early chilly morning
- The rustling of leaves
- Watching woodsmoke curling up from chimneys on your drive home
- And better yet, taking a walk and smelling that woodsmoke
- The first sip of mulled apple cider
- The warmth of a mug in your hands
- The rise of chocolate chip pumpkin bread in the oven
- Watching a bonfire dance in the night
- The smell of cinnamon in just about everything
- The brightness of a full moon in the chill of night
- The promise of longer nights
- Smells wafting from your slow cooker
- The first bite of your favorite autumnal soup
- The feeling of being wrapped tightly in your favorite blanket
- …even better if you are wrapped up and sitting outside
- Golden hues adorning the treetops
- Sinking into a cozy small-town romance set in autumn
- The sound of the Gilmore Girls intro music
- The sweetness of hard maple candy
- The feeling of pumpkin guts as you scoop for your jackolantern
- The richness of colors surrounding you in nature
- A sense of wonder as you get lost in a corn maze
- Watching leaves dance their way down to the ground
- The sense of community at a local harvest festival
- Easy camaraderie during a game night with close friends
- The comfort of the indoors on a rainy day
- The heaviness of bedlinens comforting you at the end of the day
- The calm sense of slowing down as autumn tumbles into winter
- The first snow flurries with a promise of winter
