Hello Animal Crossing friends!
I’m currently in the process of trying to obtain villagers photos as quickly as possibly. I love earning a villager’s photo before I allow them to move on from my island. It feels like a sweet momento and I truly do treasure them (I even display my very favorites in a room in my home). If you are wondering how you can get your villager’s photo as quickly as possible, you have come to the right place.
The name of the game is boosting friendship points and gift giving. Once you achieve the highest level of friendship points, you increase your chance of receiving their photo. Let’s talk about it.

Tips to Boost Friendship Points Fast
#1: Talk to Katrina
My number one tip would be to visit Katrina at Harv’s Island (make sure you unlock this!) Once you have her, she will offer a service to determine friendship level. For 10,000 bells, she will boost your friendship points. If you have the bells to spare, I recommend doing this for a boost everyday. You can only do this for one villager per day, so choose wisely.
Once you have reached the highest level of friendship, Katrina will not longer ask for 10,000 bells and will let you know she has done all she can.
#2: Understanding Friendship Points
Nookipedia explains this very well, so I am not going to go into those details. I highly recommend you check out their post to truly understand friendship points. Once you know that, that brings us to…
#3: Gift Giving!
This is where the fun begins. I love gifting my villagers so much that I have dedicated a very large chunk of my time to curating villager gift guides based on their hobbies/favorite colors/style/aesthetic. You can see my general gift guides for all 417 villagers here, or one of the others, including:
Certain items give more or less friendship points (again, you really should check out that Nookipedia page), but I like to offer a wide variety, from stacks (of 10) of non-native fruit, clothing based on their style, assessed fossils, food (made via recipe), flowers, wreaths, furniture… it just keeps it interesting and fun.
Even if you have achieved the highest level of friendship points (remember, Katrina will let you know), you may still need to gift your villager every single day until they are ready to offer their photo. Honestly… this can take a while! It always feels random. I’ve gotten gifts very quickly and some seem like they take their sweet time (snooty villagers always seem to take forever, for some reason!)
#4: More Actions That Increase Friendship
There are a few other things that will help boost friendship, including:
- Speaking to your villagers everyday
- Catching a flea off of villagers (use your net when you notice it). If you don’t notice it, you will know because they will say “itchy” while conversing with you.
- Visiting your villager’s home and playing a game with them
- Inviting a villager into your home and playing a game with them
- Returning lost items
- Attending your villager’s birthday party and gifting a wrapped present
Gift Giving Tips
If you would like to start gifting your villagers, there are a few tips to know.
- You can only gift them once per day
- Wrapped presents will help with points, so remember to buy wrapping paper in Nook’s Cranny
- If you gift a villager furniture, they may display it in their home (unless you have the DLC Happy Home Paradise and have remodeled their interior). If you do not want something in their home, it is best to gift them wall-hanging furniture (they will not place them).
- If you gift your villager clothing, they will start wearing that in their rotation. If you do not want them to wear something anymore, you can report their clothing to Isabelle (it will only be removed if you report them while they are wearing that specific outfit). I like to gift villagers clothing in their favorite style and color (my guides will let you know what those are for each villager!)
- If you gift your villagers bugs or fish, they will also display in their home (found that one out the hard way!) Again, not applicable if you have the DLC.
- Stacked non-native fruit is a great gift choice that will not affect their home
- If you have a lot of produce, DIY flour, sugar, etc and make them recipes. I always think this is a super fun one! I love “baking” for my villagers.
If you’d like ideas for gifts, I encourage you to take a look at my guides. I honestly created them for myself at the beginning to help inspire me!

I hope you find them just as helpful. And I hope that this post has helped you to plan out how you will get your villagers photos as quickly as you can.
Happy gifting, friends!
