hi guys :)
I’m sure by now you know that I always prefer to cook from scratch. I make dinner on weekdays, and typically pack my own lunch for work. However, I do keep a couple frozen meals (entrees, veggie patties, vegetable potstickers, etc) on hand. Every once in a while (like once a month maybe) I will walk in the door after a super long day at work and just want to crash on the couch in my pajamas – no cooking whatsoever. It’s those days where pre-packaged meals are my bff.
I was super thrilled when Sweet Earth Natural Foods reached out to me and asked if I would like to sample and review their frozen entrees. They’ve recently hit shelves in Target, which is convenient and exciting. More plant-based options – always a win! I decided to review the General Tso’s Tofu dish.
The Review
My initial thought when opening the package was: I hope this fills me up. It doesn’t look like a lot. After heating up for 3 minutes, I dove in.
I’ll admit – I was a little leery about the tofu because it was frozen. I’ve never had tofu after it was frozen, but it was really good. Great texture, and it seems to have some kind of batter on it. Definitely a fan, and there was a good amount of tofu in there. It also has broccoli and red peppers.
It also had the perfect amount of sweetness. The sauce was very good – I pretty much inhaled it. The whole time I was eating it, I kept thinking how great it would be if it had little chunks of pineapple. I think it’d be nice to add your own if you want a little more than the serving size.
Which brings me to the only downside. For 280 calories, I felt I could definitely eat something of more substance and would keep me full. Don’t get me wrong – it’s still good, just not enough food for me at 280 calories. I think next time, I would add my own broccoli to it, or another veggie to bulk it up. But overall, that is really my only complaint. It was very flavorful and tasty for a frozen entree!
If you need something to keep in your freezer for those in-a-pinch moments, this is a great company to support (and again, just around the corner at your local Target). Convenient, fast, and tasty – that’s really all you can ask for in a frozen dish.
The company sent me a few other flavors, so I will definitely follow-up and edit once I get through them. I just don’t eat these fast enough – like I said, I only eat packaged food few and far between.
Have you tried this brand yet? I would love to hear your thoughts. xx bianca
