Baby Products I’m Loving

I haven’t done a post about what I’m loving in a while! Since everything revolves around baby these days, I wanted to share some of the products that I am most excited about using once she arrives. There’s so much on the market, but these all caught my eye. I cannot wait!

11 Baby Items to Buy While Thrifting

11 Baby Items to Buy While Thrifting

Another thrifting post! I can’t stop myself. A little over a month ago, there was a huuuuge consignment sale just 7 minutes from us. I found out that this happens twice a year (April and September) and it’s basically my new favorite thing to look forward to. Everything from clothes to toys to gear… on and on and on. I’ll admit – some things are questionable. I’m a cautious thrifter and only gravitate towards certain items (things that can be easily washed). But I made out well, and I’ll be visiting twice every year from here on out!

The volunteers were so sweet and the atmosphere was pleasant… prices low, clothes clean, and everything was just clean in general. I was so impressed.

And as usual the best part – save a little money, recycle beautiful items that have been gently used, and donate when you are done. I love it.

So, here are some of the items I recommend grabbing. These items are easy to wash, sterilize, and make your own. Once you do that, you’ll breathe new life into them and will forget you even bought secondhand!

The Friendly Fig Nursery Mood Board

Nursery Mood Board

Slowly but surely, we are chipping away at the nursery. This is probably what I have been looking the most forward to – I love decorating/redecorating in general, so a fresh new space to be filled is a dream. It’s hard to imagine what it will look like when half the furniture isn’t in yet and I’ve been just picking up pieces here and there that stick out to me. So, I thought it would be fun (and helpful for me) to lay out some of the items we’ve gotten so far and some that we will be getting. I’m a visual person and happen to love mood boards in general.

People keep asking what the nursery theme is and honestly… I am not quite sure! I usually say it’s just a bright and airy space. Think wildflowers, fruits, pops of color, and animals of all kinds. I initially was thinking a jungle theme, but I love all animals and want to include any and all! As you can see – we got a sweet bunny, cat, AND white tiger above. I’m serious when I say any and all animals. Love.

So really, it is just going to be an eclectic/bohemian/natural type style. As long as it is bright, sunny, and colorful, I am happy.

So here is a look at what we’ve got going on so far.

Baby Registry Sample

What’s On My Baby Registry

Putting together a baby registry is no joke. It’s constantly a work in progress, and always changing (for me, anyway!) There are SO MANY PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET. I’ve spent so much time reading reviews, testing products in store, asking other moms for opinions, etc. Plus, there is always that little voice in my head saying, “remember… they are going to grow out of this stuff quickly.” This voice usually arrives when I am on Etsy or other specialty shops and want to basically buy out everything.

Plus – where do I register? Babies R Us like most moms? Target? Amazon? More researching! I ultimately settled on Amazon because Amazon can do no wrong in my eyes. It’s easy, has the largest selection, competitive pricing, easy 90-day returns, a completion discount, and buyers with a Prime account will be pleased – free shipping! The only downside/flaw I have with Amazon – well, two things. One, things go out of stock frequently and I have to constantly check to make sure everything is good to go. Second, sometimes listing go away completely and when you click on the item that vanished, it doesn’t tell you what it is! The only way I found I could get around this was to save all links/products to a Google Doc. If something goes missing, I can easily pinpoint what is missing. Sure, it took some time… but I’d rather know than wonder what the hell is gone from my registry.

I’m sure this is going to change a zillion times more before my actual shower, but I wanted to share some of the items I have on my registry. It will give you a good idea of what you may want for your own registry, or simply inspire you to look into a brand you may not have heard of. I looked at tons of sample registries while I was making my own, and loved seeing what other moms included on theirs.

Mine doesn’t include any furniture (or really any clothing) because most of that stuff my parents and in-laws are grabbing (and we’ve purchased some ourselves!) I know this kiddo is going to end up with a ton of clothes regardless of what I put on my registry, so I only included white onesie essentials. Plus, she’s basically set with 0-6 months worth of hand-me-downs!

So now that I’ve rambled on and on about this, without further adieu… some of my very favorite items on our registry (it’s not the whole thing, but gives you a pretty good idea!)

Reuse Recycle Baby Clothes

Baby Thrifting: Reuse + Recycle!

Hi friends! I’ve been so excited to write this post, but kept putting it off because I wanted to really sort through and take some cool pics to go along with it. Recycling baby clothes – weeeee!

One of the very first things I did when I found out we were having a girl was ask family and friends if they knew anyone tossing baby clothes. The fact that babies need to be changed multiple times a day along with the time they actually fit into the clothes you buy… I did not want to spend a ton on it. We’re trying to save in any way we can – and I wanted to start with her wardrobe.

Before I even posted this to my friends and family, my sweet friend Lauren messaged me to let me know she had bags and bags of girl clothes for me. Lauren – you are an angel. You have no idea how much it means to me! Plus, Lauren dresses her little girl in the very sweetest clothes. Needless to say, I was thrilled! After sorting through bag after bag, I ended up with a very large and overflowing trash bag full of months 0-6 (with some 6-9 sprinkled in!) I have the best friends in my life, and I am so grateful for all the overwhelming love and support. There’s literally nothing better than thrifting, recycling, and reusing.

Why?

Connecting With Body and Baby

Connecting With Body + Baby

Hi friends – just some musings and thoughts over here. I wasn’t really planning on sitting down and writing this post, but these thoughts have been on my mind… and I just kind of started spilling.

In the first trimester (and even early in the second) when my belly wasn’t showing, some days definitely felt like nothing was going on (well, aside from the reminder from nausea). I didn’t like feeling that way, and it encouraged me to start a daily routine of talking with my babe. Some days I’d be lying in bed before waking up, and sometimes it would be the quiet moments while lying in bed before Joe settled in. Just me and my little girl (and some lavender pillow spray).

My Pregnancy Nausea Essentials Vegan

My Pregnancy Nausea Essentials

Nausea on and off, on and off. I got very lucky the first few weeks of pregnancy, but nausea hit me hard around week 7. I’m sure this happens to everyone, but at first I was like… oh how bad could it be, really?

Well, it could be bad. The worst part is knowing that this is happening and there’s not much you can do. You just need to realize that your body is working very hard to create the most magnificent human being, and all you can do is try and cope. So… I made it my mission at Target to find all the things that would keep me going – especially during work hours. I had a few really rough days, but happy to report that I got through it with the help of these products below.

What worked for me may not work for you, but hey… you never know. I hope this inspires any mom-to-be’s out there who are at their wits end and just need something to try.

Baby Girl Wish List

Baby Girl Wish List

When we found out the gender… basically, it was all over. Let the shopping begin. And when I found out it’s a GIRL on top of that… eeeee! Let’s just say it took everything in me to not spend my entire paycheck on Etsy items.

I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites – you know, so maybe it won’t just be my ovaries exploding over here alone. Haha!

My Vegan Prenatal Vitamin Routine

My Vegan Prenatal Vitamin Routine

Hi friends!

I already had a couple people come to me with this question, so I wanted to share my prenatal vitamin routine for those who are plant-based/vegan/vegetarian and who see kids in their future. One wouldn’t think that vitamins could be an issue, but it’s true – there are a lot of vitamins out there that use animal products. Sometimes, even just the protective gel around the vitamin features animal-based products. Because of this, it took me a little longer than usual to choose prenatal vitamins.

I started taking prenatals about 3 months before I actually got pregnancy. I did this for a few reasons: 1) I wanted my body to get used to this new vitamin before the morning sickness arrived, and 2) they say it helps with pregnancy to build up the nutrients. A lot of your baby’s development will happen the very first few weeks of pregnancy (before you may even know!) and it is so important to make sure the nutrients are there.

Now – disclaimer, I am not a doctor. I am just a blogger sharing my experience with prenatals. I took these to my own OBGYN to get the go-ahead based on my own health. You should always consult your own doctor before assuming.

My First Trimester

My First Trimester

As I start to write this, I have to laugh because no one knows (aside from immediate family) that I am pregnant. By the time I wrap this up and do post it, you’ll all be in the know. It feels like it is so far away (8 more weeks!) but I have a feeling that it is going to fly by. I absolutely cannot wait.

I wanted to give updates week-by-week for anyone who is interested in this sort of this. My blog will not be a pregnancy blog by any means, but still – a lifestyle blog that will capture what is happening in my world at the moment. Pregnancy will take up a portion of that, and eventually raising a vegetarian/plant-based baby. I can see this blog evolving as my own life continues to, and I think that is beautiful. I hope you guys stick around to evolve with me, too.

So, in an effort to capture the little details of my pregnancy journey, I’ll try to jot down key points here. I’ll try my best to do this for each trimester. Okay, here we go!

NOTE: This pic was taken during week 8 – I promise you’ll see some bump pics next time. I need to get better at recording them!
