Maca In The Morning [Cherry Bomb Smoothie]

Vegan Maca Cherry Smoothie

I’ve shared maca benefits and smoothie recipes on the blog in the past, but always expressed a love/hate relationship with it. But, more recently I have been craving the nutty flavor. It is definitely unique, and at first it kinda made me gag, then it was tolerable, and now I am at peace with it. Strange how your taste buds work, right? But honestly, I am glad I am coming around because I really always wanted to love this stuff.

I’m actually trying to include a teaspoon of maca into my smoothie every day for the next month or so to see if I notice any difference in how I feel. Mainly, to help balance hormones, promote fertility, and boost energy.

Vegan Maca Cherry Smoothie

I’ve used a peanut butter and cacao smoothie to mask the task of maca in the past, but want to get creative and try new recipes so I don’t get bored. Plus, I don’t need to mask it as much, because I swear… I am really starting to like it! The only thing I am not crazy about is the smell sometimes, but… what can you do.

So I landed on this cherry bomb smoothie – or black cherry, whatever you want to call it. I’ve been digging Trader Joe’s sweet frozen cherries and they actually pair very well with the maca.

Recipe

You will need:

  • 1 cup frozen banana
  • 1/3 cup frozen cherries (with 2-3 chopped up for topping)
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp maca powder
  • 1 tbs cacao powder
  • 1/2 tsp chia seeds
  • Handful of granola (optional topping)

To make:

  • Add all ingredients to your blender and run until smooth.
  • Top with frozen cherry pieces and granola, if you’d like.

I’ll definitely report back if I start to notice any changes in my overall mood and energy. If you’ve taken maca powder or supplements before, share your experience below. I would really like to hear from anyone who has given it a go. Here’s to hoping. Have a beautiful day and I hope you enjoy the recipe. xx bianca
