When I cut processed sugar from my overall diet, I never felt happier and less sluggish. I didn’t crave the things that I used to, and my skin was looking really good. I shed the last few lbs of my pregnancy weight, which was also a huge plus. Needless to say, I fell off the wagon a bit but I want to try and re-focus to make it happen again.
Finding great sugar-free recipe ideas was a priority for me then so I wouldn’t fall back into old habits, so I am re-visiting some of my favorites. The below were my go-to breakfasts. I figured since I was reminding myself, might as well share in case any of you are interested in cutting out processed sugar. (The oats are my all-time favorite!)
#1: Chocolate Almond Oatmeal
It literally feels like you are eating dessert when you eat a bowl of chocolate oats. Simply prepare oatmeal according to package and then once done, stir in 1 tbs of unsweetened cocoa/cacao powder. Transfer to bowl and add 2 tbs of almond butter. You could also add banana, strawberries, etc.
#2: Avocado Toast
A quick and easy go-to! Mashed avocado topped on toast with some cucumber, tomato, and spinach. Or you could do without the toppings. I also love a quick squeeze of lemon. So satisfying.
#3: Sweet Potato Bowl
I share the recipe for this sweet potato bowl here. To be honest, just omit the maple syrup and replace with 1 date. So delicious and sweet as is!
#4: Acai Bowl
Bring color into your kitchen! You can find the recipe for the perfect acai bowl here.
#5: Spinach + Avocado Breakfast Sandwich
Another simple breakfast, but satisfying. Sauté spinach in a sauce pan with a bit of salt and pepper (add a splash of water as necessary to cook down spinach). Add to a toasted english muffin with some sliced avocado. Delish.
If you are trying to cut out sugar, consider adding one of these recipes into your morning routine. They have certainly helped me. xx bianca
