Rediscovering my Style as a Mom: Favorite Casual Pieces

Rediscovering my Style as a Mom: Favorite Pieces

Hi friends!

If you are reading this, maybe you can relate. Pre-kids, I felt pretty good about the way I dressed. Being pregnant threw a wrench into things and then having babies and toddlers pretty much derailed it all for me. Maybe it didn’t for you… but, I wasn’t so lucky. It was leggings and a ponytail every single day for years. I was buying whatever fit my postpartum body and wasn’t too focused on styling anything. I don’t think it helped that we also went through a pandemic and the fact that I am home with my kids everyday. Regardless of what really did it, I felt like I lost my sense of style.

But now that my kids are getting older and we are out and about more and no one is wiping their messy hands on my body… I have honed in on rediscovering this part of me. I like to use Pinterest to browse ideas and really enjoy this Instagram account. She pulls together very realistic looks, which I appreciate! Since I am not working in an office and spend most days at home, I like to wear casual and comfortable outfits while still looking put together. Jeans and t-shirts, jogger sets, basic tees and the occasional graphic tee, simple gold jewelry, sweaters… that kind of vibe. And FYI, there are still leggings (because I just really love how comfortable they are and how easy I can move in them) but I definitely accessorize a bit more now.

All of this to say that if you are in the same boat, I see you. I know it is so hard to look in the mirror and feel like you don’t know who you are anymore or where your sense of style ran off to. I get it. Some days I pull together and feel great and other days, it’s sweats and fuzzy socks. But as of lately, I can feel my confidence coming back (ever so slowly, but it’s coming).

So in light of this, I wanted to share some of my favorite go-to pieces these days. I like to thrift for a lot of pieces but have also been buying things as needed if I can’t find something. That is the tough part about thrifting… it can take a while to find that exact piece that you are looking for in the perfect fit. So while I do my best and always love a good secondhand clothing store, I have been investing in pieces that fit me and my body to a T. The one area I am still struggling in is finding the perfect fit of jeans. I like my Levis but I think I need to go for a jean fitting soon and figure out what works best for me. If you have any recs, please share with me! Anyways, here are some favorite comfy, cute, casual, and basic pieces that I love.

– These are the only black leggings I will buy because they are thick, soft, not see-through, comfortable, and have a pocket. I love them so so much.

– I recently found these flare leggings. They are super flattering and smooth out my middle.

– I have come to love bodysuits that hold everything together and make me feel my best. A few favorites: a simple black one and this pretty neckline

These Levi jeans are my favorite as of now, but I am definitely in the market for a good pair of wide leg jeans. Share if you have a pair in mind!

– I love these Target tank tops for layering. I have so many colors and wear them constantly.

– I love these v-necks from Madewell. To be honest, most of my basic t-shirts are from Madewell. I just love the fit and quality. I grab them on Amazon and from Nordstrom Rack.

– I love a good cardigan and this cropped one is my favorite. I also love this soft casual button down.

– I loved sweats then and I love them now… but again, I actually style them better now. LOL But these are some of my favorite pieces: cropped sweatshirt with matching joggers, cropped hoodie, wide leg sweatpants, quarter-zip sweatshirt (love the gold detail)

– I like having a few fun graphic tees to mix things up. My current favorite is very bookish of me, but it’s this Fourth Wing one. Loved the style and coloring. It runs large.

– Lightweight cargo joggers can be dressed up or down. I found a few pairs thrift and love them, especially in the warmer months.

– I love a cute baseball cap for days on the go when I want to accessorize. I have and love this one.

– Always with a pair of sunglasses and usually from Francesca’s because they are affordable and chic.

– I use this casual sling backpack as my everyday bag and love it.

– For shoes, I mostly wear these sneakers, my white pumas, and my chelsea boots (which are the most comfortable pair I’ve ever owned).

– For jewelry, I keep it pretty simple with gold pieces. A few of my favorites: huggie earrings, gold coin necklace, gold crescent moon necklace, dainty disc necklace

– For hair, I love these clips as well as velvet and silk scrunchies. I have a few of these, too.

– Make up! I don’t wear a whole lot and mostly NYX or ELF, but I have to shout out to this matte lip cream that I have in all the colors. It is so smooth and stays on for hours, if not most of the day. Fan for life.

  1. Thank you so much for making this post! As someone who has really struggled over the past few years with my style to the point where I’ve pretty much given up on clothes all together and feel like I hate everything on me, reading this was so helpful. I finally feel like I have some idea of where to even begin! I’m ready to order most of what you linked haha

    1. Hi Emily,

I am so happy to hear it has helped you!! I knew I couldn’t have been alone in this feeling. It has taken me a bit to start to feel more confident, but slowly I have made progress. Wishing you the best as you start to rediscover your style again, too. x
