Smug villagers are probably my favorite of all the male villager types. I think their dialogue is entertaining and makes me laugh a ton. I never take their smugness too seriously. It’s just a fun dynamic.
There are some really great ones below, with two of my very favorites in the entire Animal Crossing kingdom (you’ll see who!)
I’ll include personality Subtypes below – A or B. There are actually not many B Subtypes, but it is cool if you have one of each because their dialogues are a little different. I always appreciate the little differences. You can learn more about Subtypes here.

20. Cephalobot
The robots are not typically my favorite, but Cephalobot is the cutest of his kind. His favorite colors are white and black and he has the play hobby.

19. Chadder
Chadder… the mouse that looks like cheese. I mean, people love him for this. His favorite colors are gray and black and he has the fitness hobby.

18. Ken
Okay, ninja chicken. I see you. His favorite colors are purple and blue and he has the education hobby.
He has a Subtype A personality.
17. Tex
Tex looks academia as hell. If that is your vibe, Tex may be the penguin for you. His favorite colors are gray and black and he has the music hobby.
He has a Subtype A personality.
16. Toby
Toby is a Sanrio villager, which means you need his amiibo to invite him to your island. But he is super fun and cutesy! His favorite colors are green and orange and he has the music hobby.

14. Huck
He is kind of a cutie, right? I like the little wart? Is that what that is? His favorite colors are green and yellow and he has the fitness hobby.
He has a Subtype A personality.
13. Jacques
He’s a total hipster, right? We all agree? Apparently, he has a whole DJ persona, so if this is your vibe, he is a great choice. His favorite colors are green and black and he has the music hobby.

12. O’Hare
Aloha, O’Hare. He is totally ~out of office~ and has a very tropical vacation vibe to him. Love the hair. Love the shirt. Great color scheme. He seems like such a fun addition. His favorite colors are blue and aqua and he has the nature hobby. Of course he does.

11. Kyle
Kyle, my wild child. 10/10 for design, folks. Love his coloring, based off of an African wild dog. He’s just too cool. Did you know he is the only non-cranky male wolf? His favorite colors are black and white and he has the music hobby.

10. Lopez
Another awesome design! Seriously, what a cool deer villager. And check out those eyes. Lopez’s favorite color is gray and he has the education hobby. He looks too cool with his glasses and a book in hand.

9. Kidd
I’ve always been drawn to Kidd for some reason. He has such a relaxed and carefree design about him. Not a lot of smug villagers have a Subtype B personality, but he does. His favorite colors are white and gray and he has the education hobby.

8. Julian
Oh Julian, you are just fantastic. While a horse villager, his design is all unicorn. Glitzy, glam, sparkly… he is a whole MOOD. If you love all things celestial, he is an absolute gem of a villager. His catchphrase is “glitter”… I mean, YES. His favorite colors are blue and purple and he has the music hobby.

7. Leopold
Leopold is more than meets the eye, I promise. I misjudged him in the past but when he visited my hotel, I was smitten. Love his earthy colors and love that he is bookish. He is giving ~Giles~ from Buffy. His favorite colors are green and purple and he has the education hobby.

6. Roswell
As far as the gator villagers go, Roswell has such stunning coloring/markings. I am not a huge fan of them, but he has such a cool design. He gets bonus points for having a name that relates to UFOs. His favorite colors are beige and brown and he has the nature hobby.

5. Henry
I mean… he is just a classic frog with a great design. I see him on a lot of springcore and fairytale islands and always think he looks adorable. His favorite colors are blue and aqua and he has the music hobby.

4. Shep
Aw Shep! What a cool dog. His coloring, his shaggy head of hair, his laid-back attitude… he is unique and interesting. Love when you catch a glimpse of his eyes under all those bangs. His favorite colors are blue and aqua and he has the education hobby (love this for him).

3. Raymond
The Raymond craze is real and I think it is warranted. His design is just so so good. The eyes and his glasses are just too cool. He’s such a pretty gray kitty. I am not sold on his office vibe really, which is why he isn’t quite at the top spot but overall, I have such a soft spot. He’s my favorite out of all the Subtype B smug villagers (there are not many). His favorite colors are black and gray and he has the nature hobby (which surprises me!)

And the next may just be tied for the #1 spot, it’s just too close… but…
2. Marshal
MARSHAL FOREVER. The sweetest most serious face in all the game. He makes RBF look good. In terms of design, he is so simple yet so pretty. Love his minimal look and rosy cheeks. Just super aesthetically pleasing. I know the dialogue for these guys are all similar/same but for some reason, Marshal and his expressions always make me laugh the loudest. Did you know no one can hear his screams from the basement? Hehe. His favorite color is aqua and he has the music hobby. Give this villager an award, sulky.

1. Zell
And now we’ve reached my in-game boyfriend. Zell is just the epitome of cool and smug. His design is flawless, based on a gazelle. Look at those horns. Love his coloring. Seeing him around always makes me happy and I love talking to him. Like Marshall, he always makes me chuckle. His favorite colors are purple and gray and he has the music hobby. Give this dude a microphone because he loves loves loves to sing.
