ACV + Tea Tree Oil Toner

ACV Tea Tree Toner DIY Recipe

Hey everyone – I wanted to share my new favorite skin care product with you. It’s all-natural, homemade, and made with only 3 simple ingredients. I’m still in that in-between stage of tossing old yucky products and replacing them with new, natural, and vegan products. I found that DIYing most of my skin and hair care is the way to go. I can honestly say that my skin and hair has never felt or looked better.

I’ve already shared my Apple Cider Vinegar conditioning routine, so now I’m moving along to my new toner. Featuring, of course, ACV. I love you so so so so much, ACV. Even if you smell. Marry me.

PLEASE NOTE: I am not trying to claim anything here… I am just a blogger sharing my experiences with this toner. It may or may not be the right toner for your skin type.

My skin is naturally oily, and I find that using a toner is best to balance out my skin’s pH level. I use this product on my face and my back, as I am definitely prone to bacne (unfortunately). Even worse, I used to pick like crazy, which led to scarring. Not cool. I am still in the process of trying to fade the scars (and it is going well!) and have vowed to never pick (it’s tough). Anyways, all this led me to these two wonderful, natural ingredients:

Apple Cider Vinegar

ACV is a natural antiseptic and anti-bacterial.

Since ACV can naturally balance the skin’s pH level, it does wonders for my skin. It is acidic, so it is best to dilute with water (especially if you have sensitive skin). But the results (for me) have been great. It helps to clear away excess oils and make-up from my day, and is known to improve and diminish the appearance of acne scars. It’s a double win for me. It has also been reported to lighten sun and age spots, dissolve dead skin cells, and minimize large pores.

I use Braggs Raw/Unfiltered/Organic brand. A little goes a long way, because I dilute, so it’s really inexpensive and lasts a while!

Tea Tree Oil

Ah, tea tree oil. One whiff of this, oof. It will wake up your senses. But it has both great anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, and word on the web is that is helps to fade acne scars. I actually will do a spot treatment on my back before bed, using the oil straight and applying with a q-tip.

With these claims, I thought a couple drops in my toner wouldn’t hurt. So far, so good!

Toner Recipe

BEWARE: This toner stinks. Plain and simple. If you are turned off by the smell, you may want to consider adding your favorite essential oil (like lavender) to help. I just suck it up, because the smell eventually fades away once it is dry.

You will need:

  • 1 cup ACV
  • 2 cups water
  • 5 drops tea tree oil

Add all ingredients (I put mine in a mason jar… easy to shake up!) and seal tightly. That’s it! I give it a good shake before each use. If you find that it stings and is too strong, you can add more water.

If you are afraid of how your skin will react to this, you may want to test it on a small patch before rubbing it all over your face. Better to be safe than sorry!

No need to store this in the fridge, either. I keep it in my bathroom closet – or any cool, dark, and dry place.

Anyone else use this recipe? I’m interested to hear your experiences or what other natural ingredients you use on your skin. Please share! xx bianca
