Newsflash: Homemade ketchup is so easy to make. I’m not sure why I thought it would require so much effort. Basically you just dump your ingredients into a bowl and whisk together. I used a can of tomato paste as my base so that it would last me longer than a week – since I don’t eat much ketchup to begin with. You could definitely make it with fresh tomatoes, but this was my solution to having it on hand for much longer. And now that I’ve seen how easy it is, I am going to transition the processed ketchup crap out of my life. Continually taking baby steps…
Oh, and bonus – also a simple fry recipe… that is probably all over the internet already, but whatever. Two in one.
Ketchup Recipe
Make about 1 cup
- 1 can tomato paste
- 2 tbs apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup water (more or less, depending on the consistency you want)
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1/4 tsp mustard powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic salt
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Mix everything in a bowl and taste as you go – it took a little adjusting for me to get the taste I liked.
Fry Recipe
Oven: 400 F
Bake Time: 25-30 minutes (depending on how crispy you like them)
- 4-5 red skin potatoes (cut into fries)
- 3 tbs olive oil
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Dash of salt and pepper
Toss everything in a large bowl and bake on a lined baking sheet at 400 F for 25-30 minutes.
Serve together, and enjoy your unprocessed ketchup and fries. xx bianca
Yum!! Throw some curry powder or cinnamon into your ketchup mix next time. OMG – so good.
