Vegan Taste Test: Louisville Vegan Jerky

Louisville Vegan Jerky Review

Prior to eating plant-based/vegan, I ate everything under the sun. Lots of junk food (yup) and among that was jerky. Not all the time, but just every once in a while. The cool thing is, anything can be made vegan. I mean ANYTHING. Including jerky.

I was really excited to find out about Louisville Vegan Jerky and couldn’t wait to get my hands on some. This isn’t an everyday eat, but definitely a treat every once in a while. Especially great for someone who is teetering on the brink of eating vegetarian or vegan and afraid to give up foods like this.

Review

TASTE
These have a wicked kick – loved it. If I had to rank the flavors, it would be: Sriracha Maple, Smokey Carolina BBQ, and Smoked Chipotle.

I just really loved the kick and flavor of the subtle maple and sriracha. It was also the spiciest, and I have been on a heat kick these days. The smokey carolina bbq was super flavorful up front. The smoked chipotle was also really great, it was just a little on the saltier side for me.

TEXTURE
Great texture. Pretty convincing, but not exact (but I liked that about it)! I expected it to be drier than it was, and that was a pleasant surprise.

OVERALL
If you can’t tell already, I really enjoy this jerky. It’s not only convincing (the packaging reads “fake never tasted so real,” and it’s true), but packs great flavor. Another bonus is that it actually carries a decent amount of protein. If you need a quick boost, these have at least 3-7 grams of protein in a serving. Not bad for a snack.

My meat-eating husband did this taste test with me, too – he was blown away. He went back for seconds, thirds, fourths of each flavor, ha! His favorite was actually my least favorite (the chipotle) but he enjoyed them all. He loved the extra saltiness of that one. Meat-eater approved!

Have you tried this jerky? I’d love to hear what you think of it! xx bianca
