Growing up, I hated coleslaw. It looked so… weird!! And it smelled awful.
LOL silly me. Coleslaw is incredible. I don’t even know when or why I started to like it, but it is one of my favorite summer side dishes. While nothing compares to come good ‘ol vegan mayo, I was playing around with flavor and landed on this mayo-free recipe. Can you guess what my secret ingredient is?
TAHINI, OBVIOUSLY. So tangy!! It’s so delicious. You won’t even miss the mayo. I made this for my family a while back and it was a hit. My [vegan] mom especially loved it. So if you need a quick and easy dish to bring to a cookout coming up, I highly suggest this one.
Recipe
Serves: 8-10 people (or more)
You will need:
- 1 head cabbage, shredded
- 1 cup shredded red cabbage
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1/2 cup tahini
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2-3 tbs dijon mustard
- Dash of salt, pepper, and celery salt (to taste)
- Sesame seeds, to garnish
To make:
It’s simple, really. Dump all ingredients into a large bowl and mix away until well combined. Taste test as you go to adjust seasonings, etc.
I guarantee that even the non-vegans will enjoy this side dish. You don’t even have to tell them it is sans mayo. Let them figure that out on their own – LOL. xx bianca
