Picture Book Haul from Book Outlet

Picture Book Haul from Book Outlet

Hi friends! I have been investing a bit into our picture book library lately with some seasonal reads. I love children’s lit so much. If I didn’t work as a copywriter, my dream job would definitely be in the realm of children’s books and publishing. Or a librarian. Anything to do with books, really.

Buying thrifted books is always my #1 go-to but sometimes you just can’t find what you want no matter how long and hard you search. Buying books can get very expensive and our wish list is pretty extensive (and ever-growing). Enter Book Outlet.

I JUST FOUND BOOK OUTLET. And I can’t believe it took me this long to know about this company. Essentially, this is a bargain bookshop that carries publisher overstocks at a discounted price. I’ll share pricing below when I share our picks so you can see for yourself. I’ll compare with Amazon, since that is where I typically buy books.

Just a note, too. This is in no way to diss Amazon because you know I love Amazon. I just love a good steal, especially on books because I always want a whole lot of them.

But anyways! You can learn more about Book Outlet and place your first order here (over $35 is free shipping, yaaay). Here’s what we added to our library.

1. Lola Dutch

I’ve heard so much about this series and I can see what the fuss is all about. Lola Dutch and her animal friends are too sweet. I think my girls are going to be fans of this gorgeous series.

  • Amazon: $11.38
  • Book Outlet: $3.89

2. Love, Z

I had my eye on this book for Willow for a while. It is actually the book that I searched for used and eventually found Book Outlet through my searching. It’s about a robot who finds a love note in a bottle. I MEAN. C’MON. It gives me all the Wall-E vibes. And look at that price.

  • Amazon: $12.79
  • Book Outlet: $4.89

3. Hug Machine

This kid is a hugging machine and I’m thrilled to have it for our Valentine’s Day book collection.

  • Amazon: $7.13
  • Book Outlet: $3.89

4. Plant a Kiss

Love grows when planted! I love the message and it is a sweet addition to our our “month of love” shelf.

  • Amazon: $7.09
  • Book Outlet: $3.89

5. The Little Rabbit

I initially bought this book on Amazon for Willow’s Easter basket this year. I just love the beautiful illustrations and it’s a really cute story of a girl dressed up as a bunny. I know she is going to love it. But I returned the Amazon copy and grabbed it off Book Outlet because you can’t beat that price difference!

  • Amazon: $12.84
  • Book Outlet: $6.49

6. Bunny Roo, I Love You

For Fiona’s Easter basket this year! I cannot express how adorable this book is. The word, the illustrations… it’s just gorgeous. I actually bought this one on Amazon initially, too, only to return it because this price was too good to beat.

  • Amazon: $6.99
  • Book Outlet: $3.89

7. Mrs. Peanuckle’s Flower Alphabet

Another book for Easter baskets. I wanted a spring-inspired one aside from the bunnies. We love all the Mrs. Peanuckle books (we have fruit and vegetable) so this one was a must.

  • Amazon: $6.99
  • Book Outlet: $3.89

8. Whale in a Fishbowl

For obvious reasons, I really like the message here. It’s about a whale in captivity that longs for freedom. This is going to be a gentle way to introduce my daughters to this wrong-doing. It’s important for them to know that animals do not belong in captivity.

  • Amazon: $12.32
  • Book Outlet: $6.49

9. Fletcher and the Falling Leaves

Another book I looked for to thrift but no luck. It’s such a sweet story about a curious fox in autumn. I love fall-inspired books so I’ll be holding onto this for a few months and can’t wait to read it with my girls come September.

  • Amazon: currently unavailable, but typically in the $7 range
  • Book Outlet: $3.29

10. The Little Reindeer

I had my eye on this book last year and searched a couple thrift stores for it with no luck. I passed on it because it was a bit steep… I cannot believe I grabbed it at this price. More than 50% off. I’ll be saving this for December.

Like its sister book, The Little Rabbit, the illustrations are just beautiful and I know my animal-loving daughter is going to really enjoy the story.

  • Amazon: $15.29
  • Book Outlet: $6.49

So with tax, these 10 books came to $50.37. If I ordered these from Amazon, it would have been $99.82, before tax. Crazy! That is a 50% difference. Now I have some books for Valentine’s Day, Easter baskets (that I would have been buying anyway), and Christmas.

I am so glad I found this website and I just really needed to share it with the rest of you. If you have your eye on some childrens books lately, give them a browse here. I hope that this has been helpful!
