Winter Reading List & Recommendations

Winter Reading List

Hi friends!

I hope you guys are liking all the reading lists lately. I kind of can’t stop because books are life and I love to share what we have on our shelves (for adults and young readers). I wanted to share my winter reading list with you, as well as books that I have read and loved in the past that are perfect for the next few months. So grab a cup of tea or coffee, a blanket, and find your next read below.

Here’s what’s on my winter reading list:

Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy: Set in Greenland, this book follows a researcher and her journey into the arctic to follow the migration of arctic terns.

First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen: This is a follow-up to Garden Spells (which I loved) so I am excited to dive back into this world of magical realism.

The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben: I need a hearty dose of nature during these barren months. This books sounds so intriguing.

Running Wild by KA Tucker: I have loved the Alaskan world Tucker has created in this series and the characters/stories are heartwarming. This next installment comes out this week.

Balanced and Barefoot by Angela J. Hanscom: Another book that explores the impact of nature on our children and how important it is to get outside. I’m currently in the middle of this one and it has inspired me to get outside more, even in the cold.

Book I’ve read and are perfect for winter:

The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well by Meik Wiking: This is the book to read if you are having trouble embracing the cold winter months ahead. It will give you all the cozy feels and inspire you to make the most of the season… and *gasp* possibly learn to love it.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott: Would it be a winter reading list without this classic? The coziest of cozy during the holiday season.

The Simple Wild by KA Tucker: This romance takes place in Alaska and I enjoyed it so much. The characters are wonderful and Jonah is swoooooooonworthy.

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah: This is a tough but captivating read. It also takes place in Alaska, which is why it feels like a winter read to me.

There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather by Linda Akeson McGurk: If you have kids, this book has completely changed my perspective on getting outside in all types of weather. It will be especially helpful in the winter.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig: While not wintery per se, this book has such a cool and unique concept and I enjoyed it immensely. It’s pure magic and I think now is the perfect time to pick it up.

Cosy: The British Art of Comfort by Laura Weir: Another hyyge-like book that will make you fall in love with the season we are in.

One Day in December by Josie Silver: I’ll always include this book on any holiday or winter list because it is just wonderful wonderful. If you are a romance lover like me, pick this up ASAP.

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry: Oh yes, I am including this baby because it will take you away from the winter weather and plop you right into paradise. Plus, it is one of the best romance novels I have read. The characters are LOVE!! It will make you feel all warm and fuzzy, no matter the temperature.

Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw: This book was mystical and mysterious. I figured out what was going on pretty early on, but still kept my interest. It takes place in a wintery, wooded-setting (hence the name).

Other books that I have read but did not finish because they weren’t for me (but might be for you?)

  • The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
  • Wintering by Katherine May
