Hi friends — this week has been mentally draining. While I love my job, it is definitely an atmosphere that takes a lot out of you (hard deadlines, approvals, you know). As someone who already suffers from anxiety, I have definitely been challenged with learning how to manage my stress better and how to disconnect once I step out of the building and into my home.
My sister (hi Tianna!) recommended that I order an aromatherapy essential oil diffuser. And that’s what I did… and it’s become my favorite thing in the world. Let me tell you about it.
First, I ended up buying this one HERE. It’s small, easy to clean, easy to use, changes color, and offers two settings: 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off, or continuous. I prefer 30 on, 30 off.
I also bought the top 6 essential oils along with it, which comes with: lavender (favorite), lemongrass, orange, tea tree, eucalyptus, and peppermint. I’ll go into detail about what these scents can do for you in a bit.
So, does it really help? I like to think so. Every night, I look forward to getting home, comfy, and on the couch with the diffuser working its magic next to me. It also hums white noise when its on, which is oddly therapeutic for me. Joe has even made mention that the white noise is nice!
I have been on a lavender kick, which is best to unwind before bed, and it smells incredible. It just puts me in a better state of mind, and helps clear the clutter. Instead of focusing on work and worrying about tomorrow, I let my mind focus on the hum and the smell (and yeah, the pretty colors that change). It’s more mesmerizing than anything. For me personally, it has helped elevate my mood and calm my anxiety. It’s hard to come home everyday and feel anxious of things that you cannot control. I’ve been struggling with it for a while now, and I’m constantly trying to tell myself that I can only do the best I can, and then I need to move on and live my life after 6 PM. So, maybe the diffuser really does help, or maybe it is in my head — either way, I am just glad it helps.
I also highly prefer this to candles, because it is much safer. My cat, Minnie, would probably light her tail on fire if I had candles on all over the house (!!)
So yes, this is something that I recommend to anyone who may have trouble sleeping or just needs something to calm the nerves from the day after settling in at home. I’m so happy with it, and now I want one for every room! The best part is — it doesn’t break the bank, either. ;)
As for the essential oils that came with it, here’s a basic overview of what each one does. I also read that blending oils can smell great and help on a multitude of levels. I still need to try that.
Lavender — A light scent that promotes calmness and relaxation. The best oil for anyone with anxiety.
Lemongrass — Light and fresh, it is great for balancing the mind, relaxation, and relieving muscle pain. Â It’s also a natural antiseptic that can provide vitamins to the skin and boost energy.
Eucalyptus — A mix between sweet mint and pine, eucalyptus is known to improve respiratory issues. It is also a natural anti-inflammatory.
Orange — Tangy and sweet, orange can also promote calmness. It promotes a positive attitude and a relaxed spirit.
Tea Tree — A powerful antiseptic, tea tree can naturally disinfect the air in your home.
Peppermint — Minty and cool, peppermint has a calming aroma, and can help liven the mind, body, and soul.
I’d love to invest in more essential oils — anyone have a favorite one in particular? Please let me know in the comments :) xx bianca
Yes! My mother in law gifted me one for Christmas and I then gifted MY mom one for Mother’s Day! I use Doterra Oils (http://doterra.com/US/en) and my favorite blend for nighttime is “serenity”. It’s a combination of Lavender, Marjoram, Roman Chamomile, and Ylang Ylang + Hawaiian Sandalwood and Vanilla Bean.
Hi Leslie – that blend sounds AMAZING. I am going to have to check it out now! Thank you for the recommendation :) xx b
