Vegan Lactation Smoothie

Vegan Lactation Smoothie Recipe

Everyone talks about lactation cookies, which are awesome, but smoothies are much easier and quicker to make in my kitchen… especially while I was just starting out with Willow. I simply took some of the key ingredients and added a bunch of other things I love to it and there you have it. Does this help my milk supply? I like to think so. I’ve never had any issues (thankfully!) as an exclusively pumping mom. More on that another day.

If anything at all, it definitely tastes great and is full of amazing nutrients for nursing or pumping mamas. I hope you enjoy.

Recipe

You will need:

  • 1 tbs ground flaxseed
  • 1/2 cup ground rolled oats
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tbs coconut oil
  • 1 tbs cocoa powder
  • 2 tbs peanut butter or almond butter
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup non-dairy milk

To make:

  • In your blender, add ground flaxseed + rolled oats. Run until grounded up well.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.

The Benefits

The two major players here are the ground flaxseed and rolled oats. Both are rumored to increase your milk supply (or at least give you a little boost). You can read more about oatmeal here.

I also want to give a shout to the coconut oil, which is also a great ingredient for breastfeeding moms. Containing lauric acid, it may increase the quality of breastmilk. Hey, why not try it?

Whether or not this helps, I do enjoy this smoothie and if it helps, even better. xx bianca
